2003 Mazda 6s Build Log!

This will be a relatively slow build log, but tomorrow I will be installing HU and dash kit so figured I'd start up the thread tonight.

The setup as of now is going to be :::

Sub : RE MT 15" (d2)

Amp : Crunch GP-3000d PRO (It was between this and a rockford T3000... The Crunch Won..)

HeadUnit : Kenwood Excelon KDC-X672 *This is a temporary HU since I won't have components for a few months, didn't need anything fancy*

Wires : So far I have a Kicker 1/0 Hyperflex dual amp kit (PKD1), KnuKonceptz RCA's, and Big 3 will probably be done with Knu 1/0 or Hyperflex 1/0.

Front Stage : PG RSD 6.5 Components

Front Stage Amp : Kicker ZX350.4

That's about it for now, I'm waiting on the amp to get in as well as some of the stuff but I have the HU and dash kit (stupid mazda 6 with it's integrated A/C and Radio, needed a $180 dashkit.) and that will be going in tomorrow.

**This build log is mainly to help out others with MAzda 6's as there are very few of us in the Car Audio world. So far I've only spoken with ONE other user who did an install in his mazda 6 on this forum. So this is basically going to be a well documented build log in hopes I can help whoever needs it.**

I looked like hell for actually about 2 months and the cheapest I found new was $169 or something like that. Ended up giving in and buying that one. It was the Metra Turbo2 Dash Kit (#99-7503)

Too late now though, I already bought it and it's sitting right here. Haha.

x20 what year is the 6 you have? If it is one of the older ones, $160 will be the cheapest you can find for that car. The newer 6s have a different dash configuration that does not call for the whole entire console to be replaced. Also, be careful with the kit the defrost button can be a little touchy.

Well I got the HeadUnit in there and everything. I see what you mean about the defrost button, if I hit the A/C Recycle button wrong it'll turn on the defrost.

A question though if you happen to come back in, My Recycle / Fressh button is backwards, like, when I have it on fresh air it's really recycling, and vice-versa. Is this a common problem or something? Can it be fixed? Not much of a problem, just asking.

Oh and I forgot to hook up the LCD screen from the car onto the dash kit, so no screen until I take it apart again this weekend and use the harness. Lol, I knew that plug that was hanging there went somewhere!

But I wasn't able to snap any pics, I started doing it and got carried away. I had the camera, but next thing I knew I was already done and hadn't taken any photos. Haha.

But yeah, I got the Crunch GP3000DPro in a couple days ago //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif!

Only complaint is the remote knob is Bass Boost and not an actual Gain //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif, oh well. I just won't use it. But other than that it looks like a fine amp.

And I ordered my front stage, will be as shown in sig :

Front Stage : PG RSD 6.5 Components (On The Way As Well)

Front Stage Amp : Kicker ZX350.4 (Also On The Way)

Hopefully it arrives on Saturday so I can install this weekend, if not it'll have to wait until next weekend.

But yeah, everything is coming together nicely! Anyone else on here that owns a 6, do you happen to know how to drop the headliner? I'm assuming it's just a matter of unscrewing the visors and popping out the domes and any clips like with most cars, but just asking first.

As far as I know there is no way to fix that install kit. It is what it is. If you make it up to IN I sure would like to hear/see this system!!!

Ah well that stinks, it's really not that bad, but if I find it to be that annoying and I have some freetime I'll take a look at the board and see if I can figure anything out.

FVCK i hated doing my friends mazda 3. i know the 6 is no better.

they get pretty loud with little power tho

that **** dash was a pain in the a$$ of course we just left the factory in because of it being connected to important crap on the car

Haha yeah I can say it was a pain, and the instructions that came with the dash kit were terribly translated, and didn't have very good pics so at first I unscrewed the wrong things and lost one of the screws. Not sure what the screws were for, but my car hasn't fallen apart yet so I should be okay.

It definitely was a pain though, and I have to take it apart again to run RCA's and replace the harness I left out for the screen. I didn't get a chance to do so this weekend though so it'll either be during the week or this weekend coming up.

Going to take my door panels off when I get home later today around 6pm to see how difficult the install would be, if it's relatively easy and I think it will be quick I'll do it one day this week. If it seems a bit more complex I'll wait for the weekend.

I have a mazda 6i I can relate on the indash. I couldn't get those screws at the bottom of it to come out. So don't you have 6x8 door speakers?? I have some rockfosgate t1682s speaker in all four doors. Subwoofer grade midbass coming for those speakers. Let me know if u need a little instruction on things i'll see what i can do to help.
