2001 vw gti....what you think?

never did the cash for clunkers, and its over now so **** it. getting tired of the exploder. looking for a good hatch or sedan. sooooo...anyone here own a 01 gti with the 6 cyl?

what do you think of this one?

is $6.5k too much for this particular 101k mile car? are they car audio friendly (ie, big enough doors to get deeper speakers in)? should i step up to a newer one for a couple grand more? any and all personal experience is welcome

I love the GTI, and they are very car audio friendly.

my friend has the same car and they are nice to look at and drive but they break down alot....for that price u should be able to get a car with less miles somewhere else i think

i would opt for the newer generation... IMHO they look much better than these. You can find the 4 cylinder turbo one cheaper... they arent much slower than the v6s and probably give u better gas mileage.

from what i understand, there are two newer generations. im not a huge fan of the new ones. (unless im wrong and you're referring to some kind of face lift they might have given the car at some point in time during this generation?) they look pretty good, but IMO these look better.

edit: where is Req and azbass when you need them...what i want is one that looks like theirs. if you guys show up, what years are your vw's?

i realize that, but i didnt know if you were talking about the 5 or the 6. ive also seen some cars that get a "face lift" after being in production for a few years to give it a slightly updated look. from the wiki article (which sucks because all the years over lap due to some generations being sold in other countries longer/shorter than here) it seems as though the mk4 went through its whole life with no facelift, so the first production year mk4 should look exactly the same as the last production year mk4. this makes it nice because i can get an older car for cheaper, but still have the same look of a newer one.

go with a 4 cyl that has a turbo....good friend just sold his and whishes he did.....also dont take it the wrong way...i remember u being tall are u sure u can sit in it comfortably ?
