2001 Chevy Lumina - Battery Location :(

Hey guys,

I have a 2001 Chevy Lumina. I've got all my wires ran for my amp, all that is left is to hook it up to the battery. I noticed that the battery is UNDER the windshield wiper fluid tank. Questions:

* Why the hell is it designed like that? Shouldn't the battery be very accessible?

* Is there an auxilary jack or something so I don't have to tear out the tank?

* If not, I know I have to remove the strut bar to get to the tank - but where to go from there? I see what looks like snap pins or something on the left. I do no work on engines, I don't feel like breaking something just to get my amp hooked up.

Thanks,

Blaine

dont think i have ever installed in that year of chev lumina.... i know that that year dodge stratus, the batt is like in the front bumper. and without takeing out a bunch of stuff, or pulling out the wheel well plastics its **** near impossiable to get to.......

as far as you're car???? i dunno.. go to a dealer and the can show you on the computer the break down of how it's put together.. or maybe they know how to get to it... isnt there a + & - jumper post's???

those snap pins are they connected on a fuse box those r aux and they r connected to the battry u can use those
I'm not sure I understand your comment.

I don't know if there are aux posts on the battery. The snap pins are on the washer fluid tank. What about a fuse box?

Hmm, thank you for the information. The fuse panel is on the inside of the dash right? So you're saying that it is by my driver side windshield, but on the engine side of the firewall?

I'm a total noob at this, sorry for the stupid questions.

just take the strut bar off and the washer fluid tank out... it only takes like 5 minutes. i just took my washer fluid tank out and threw a stinger sp1700 in there and put the strut bar back on... but you will have a hellll offf a time doing it without taking that bar and tank off.. i have a 1995 lumina, designed the same way.

Thanks inferno, that helps a lot.

As far as the tank goes - what are those little black clips in the front? Are they unscrewable or do you just have to yank on 'em and hope they don't break?

BTW i found the fuse box on the other side of the car. Thanks for the advice about it - but my cable is already on the drivers side.

the aux. post should be on the drivers side under the hood right by the strut tower atleast thats where it was in my last car wich was a 98 lumina i'm pretty sure its gonna be in the same spot as yours

Thanks. Does it look like anything specific? Is it labeled? I don't see it on mine. I'll probably have to remove the tank.

Umm... what exactly is the problem? I was ALWAYS able to get to the sideposts on my monte withought removing the windshield reservoir.
Basically everyone seems to know where these side posts are but I can't seem to find them. I don't really know what I'm looking for. Are these metal knobs with red caps somewhere?

Or - do you mean the side posts on the battery? I can't get to them hardly at all with a jumper cable, let alone a wrench to attach a power cable. Like I said - I'll probably just end up taking out the resevoir. Theres only about an inch and a half space between the resevoir and another component where I can squeeze a jumper cable if necessary.
