$200-$400 Component Selection

I recently had a speaker fail from my current components Polk DB6501 due to manufactures defect and it's past warranty time for my defect it's time for new speakers.

Budget: $200-$400 with an absolute max of $700

Goal: SQ with decent SPL

I've posted a Poll to help me and future prospective Comp buyers in this price range. I feel that it's a pretty comprehensive list. However, if I missed any speakers that should be included or that I should look, please feel free to to chime in. I'm looking for constructive opinions.

The MM's are a nice price and very good SQ and not bad SPL. If you were wanting more SQ go with the Polk SR's.

with 400$ you could buy a 9887 and spend 150 on raw drivers and still probably get better performance than any of the listed comp sets. I don't see myself ever going back to passive sets; the cost-performance ratio just doesn't come close to properly installed and tuned raw drivers.

i know if i hadnt already had an amp, i would have went active. i spent $50 on 2 crossovers for a DIY setup because i already had an amp. where i could prob put 50$ more and got a decent amp if i were starting new, or over.

if you dont already have an active processor and a 4ch amp, then the cost could go up to your max pretty easily. I dont see any sites selling the 9887 for 250 right now but if your patient i bet one will pop back up again.
