2 wiring questions: Split Remote. Switched PSU.

Hi,

1. I will be using a relay to power some fans. I will be controlling the relay with the remote lead from my deck. I will also have to use this remote wire to indicate to my amp that the deck is on. Will there be any problems with splitting it, so it goes to the amp, AND goes to the relay?

2. I have a Phoenix Gold sub with an LED in it. To hook it up, it asks for a 12v switched power hook-up. How would I provide this? what type of resistor would be good for this, so as not to blow the led?

thanks

why not just connect your amps to the same spot as your fans? (the remote wire turns on the relay, and the relay then turns on the amps and fans).

Are you sure that there isnt a resistor already built into the leds? if it says to connect to a switched 12V source (the relay taht you are already using would work), then I would think the resistor is already built in.

It;s gonna be a pain in the *** to connect an 8 gauge wire and a 16 gauge wire to a tiny *** terminal, heh.

I'm not sure whether it has a resistor or not. But, what power would I connect it to?

alright, to answer my second question, I can hook it directly to the 12v power source that will be driving my fans.

So... does anyone know if splitting the remote wire from the head-unit, to be directed to the amp AND the relay, is going to be harmful to the remote circuit in the head-unit?

you are thinking way too hard man.

your amp needs a + wire from the +terminal of the battery ALL THE WAY to your amp, no ifs ands or butts - and im guessing AT LEAST 8guage wire for this. [ there are SOME exceptions, but i will not list them as im 99% sure you dont fall in that catagory]

your amp needs a - wire from the CHASSIS of your vehicle - at LEAST as large of a guage as the wire listed above [as short as possible]

and lastly your amp needs a + wire FOROM THE BLUE\WHITE [or just blue] WIRE ON THE HARNESS OF YOUR RADIO [usually between 14guage and 18guage]. if you plan to hook a relay up, THAT WIRE is what TRIGGERS your relay. you do NOT run a relay in line with the power wire for the amplifier. that is a BIG nono.

this is a link that explains [in detail] how to hook some fans up to your headunit, so when the headunit turns on, your fans and your amp will turn on. [see first diagram on the page - terminal 30 on the relay also goes to your REMOTE TURN ON, aka REM wire that is on your amplifier [the tiny little blue one in your amp kit] - this is what "turns on" your amplifier when the headunit powers up.

as far as physically installing the stuff, this should give you a pretty detailed rundown of all the steps.

Thats exactly the site i was looking at. According to that diagram, i must hook my power, from my batter, to terminal 87 on my relay, hook the fans (and LED from the sub) to terminal 30, hook the relay to terminal 86 and hook terminal 85 to a ground.

excuse the crudeness of the drawing...

where the dark red is the power, the blue is the remote and the black is ground. Black square is relay, red rectangle is amp, lightbulb is LED.

the relay would be wired like this:

86: Remote

85: ground

87: 12V from battery

87a: nothing

30: Fan, LED

judging from the lack of further response, I gather that it is alright for me to go ahead and wire it like the diagram above. Can anyone else confirm this?
