I could try a different enclosure, but if I still don't like the sound of these subs, then I've wasted money on another enclosure. I supposed that could work the other way with the JL too.Nope. What sounds good to you may not sound good to me. Its all subjective. However based on TSP's JL recommends smaller than optimal enclosures.
Before you go spending money on overpriced JL why dont you try out a few things first.
1. Try a different enclosure. A larger sealed enclosure or a ported enclosure.
2. Tune from the HU rather than the amp. Try 63Hz with a 24db slope.
Now what HU are you running? What settings do you have for treble, bass, etc.? And this hasnt been mentioned yet, but did you match your gains on the amp to the HU?
I always tune from the HU, which is an Alpine 9887. As far as where I have my EQ settings, I would have to go the the HU and find out. I don't recall those off the top of my head. Yes, the gains have been matched.
