2 subs blown in less than a month

1999 ranger XLT single cab.

ported slim truck box

sony xplod 2/1 channel 1000 watt amp (bridged for one sub)

alpine head unit

scoche 1200 watt wiring kit

kenwood excelon 12" sub

The first sub I bought was a rockford 12" p1, after about 5 minutes the sub was very warm to touch. I figured it was common for it to be warm so I proceeded to drive around and listen to it. 10 minutes tops the rockford blew.

The excelon Did not blow nearly as fast however it did still blow out.

It took the excelon rouhgly a week before it blew out.

Can anyone tell me why my subs might be blowing out like this?

After further review, OP ran too much gain and clipped the subs. That Sony amp will never put out 1000watts and live to tell about it.

Go buy another P1 or get 2 P1's and have a professional hook them up ok. That amp should be able to put out 300rms clean.

Who hooked up your amp? did you run the right power wire to it?

could you explain how lower watts cause clipping please?

Me and my dad hooked this system up, he is 27 years autocraft and both bestbuy and my local car audio shops say it is hooked up correctly.

As far as the power wire I just ran red to the pos. battery and through my firewall to the amp.

All connections for male ends are saltered and heat sinked.

It would make no sense to turn the settings down 1400w sub VS. 1000watt amp.

It should be able to push itself at whatever volume I want it to.

I would think.

Thats whats wrong your going by watts

you need to look at the rms its the true power handle of the sub

watts mean practial nothing look for rms and the amps are all rated in rms because its a continous amount of power being put to the sub

no, if you run one kenwood then youd be fine. that matches the amp at about 400rms.

If you run one p1's then make sure you have the ohms right. All you get is 4 ohms to play with. one p1 = 4ohms load at 150rms, 300 max? one kenwood is 4 ohms load at 400rms ---The 1200MAX is for burping, I havent seen ANYONE burp those.

have you ever seen a sine wave? nice smooth hills, Well, when you clip a signal, that means that you are amplifing the signal too much and that produces a flatline at the peak of the sine wave. This can cause your coils to over heat with signals that are not reproductive.

Take the advice.... Never turn the gain up more than half. try to keep it around 40%. Becarefull when you wire the subs to the amp. watch the impedance load on the amp = to what the amp can handle.

If you want it to be louder.... go buy better equipment bro...
