2 subs blow in different ways?

On one of my subs the coils look absolutely fine, but when i push down on the center of the woofer it makes a scratching sound.

K so here's a picture of the sub with the coils busted. this one doesn't have that nasty scratching sound when i push down on it.

2 re se's their run by a 2k hifonics brutus not over powered but bass boost was too high which i guess caused them to blow.

Is it a cone busted on one sub and the coil on another? if so how much is it to get fixed?

they can be reconed to handle 2k rms...

same thing happened to my hdc3s 2 months ago... literally the exact same thing....the one with the ok looking coil is blown bec it unwounded slightly...and the other one is simply burned up... 2 recones and ull be back to normal

Shared chamber enclosure? They tend to make a pair of subs blow in different ways. One sub dies thermally, leaving the remaining sub in a now double the size enclosure, which blows the second one mechanically. Pretty common.

You do not need bass boost...ever

Leave it at 0, period. It will not give you an extra bass, all it does is boost frequencies around a central point and if you've already set your gains properly, all that boost will do is cause the amp to clip. Set the gain properly and be done.

Bass boost will give you 'more' bass at lower volume settings, it just wont create a higher over all output potential. But yes, generally speaking bass boost is evil, because most people dont understand how/when/why to use it properly.

Some old headunits use to have a loudness function whose bass boost decreased as the volume was increased. These were actually fairly safe bass boost functions to use because they (again) diminished as the volume was turned higher. The only bad thing with those were they offered overly exaggerated bass at low volume, but less bass presence at higher volumes in comparison to the mids and highs. IOW, inconsistent relative freq response based on the volume knob. Not at all what someone looking for 'accuracy' should consider. But its okay for a ground pounder (although I still wouldnt use it personally).

"Loudness" was/is a generic term for various applications of a bass boost function. So why do you hate bass boost, but think "loudness" isn't a bad idea?

thanks for all the help guys.

as far as repairing them goes am i probably going to have someone local do it since i dont have the warranty?

and any ideas on the cost for this?

if you can find someone local i would imagine like 150 each at most. if you send it off then its gonna be between 150-200 prolly.

also i hate bass boost because even when you use it right it boosts frequencies at like 45hz or something. and then drops off pretty well after that. fail.
