2 subs at lower power or 1 sub at higher power? HELP PLEASE

So i want to get the alpine type R subs

ALPINE TYPE-R SUBS - 1000W RMS - BRAND NEW | audio, GPS | Mississauga / Peel Region | Kijiji

1000 rms,

Now here is my dilema, I have heard that 1000 rms to these subs is actually too much and that people have blown their subs this way, would you guys recommend, 1 dual 2 ohm sub, running 1070 rms @ 2 ohms

OR

2 dual 4 ohm subs running 1670 rms @ 1 ohm, so about 835 rms per subwoofer?
