2" vs 3" port

what the hell was wrong with that. i know i didnt pay enough attention to the first post, but the title makes on think of tubed ports. and 12.6 square inches would be minimal for a 12 anyway. there wasnt anything wrong with what i said.

where did you get 12.6 at??...
2x13.5 ... would be 27 square inches --and

3x13.5 ... would be 40.5 square inches...

i would go with the 3 inch wide port... so you get less port noise.. have fun...

like i said, i thought we were talking about tubes. the area of a 4 inch tube is ~12.6 square inches.

Might be helpful if one of the box builder guru's put up a sticky or something to calculate how to get at least the minimum port area with all the variables. Sub diameter, power, VB etc. maybe a specific program that can help. And or which section in a given program to check. I know I am not the greatest for not checking Win isd but I have never had port noise problems.. for my whole whopping 4 enclosures //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I got my port length from winisd, a 4" wide port would be too long for my design. Im sticking with the 3" wide port

width and length are inconsequential.. i was referring to correct port area to minimize noise.. Sorry i did leave that post rather vague.

i didn't want to make a new post and this one is about the same problem i have.

i just finished building a box, its about 1.5 ft^3 per chamber, i got 2" ports because i had some spare pvc laying around. I was wondering if thats too small of diameter?

The port calculator told me to make them about 2.75" long to make it tuned to 35hz is that correct also?

2" seems like a very small port to me...but if its what you have..

I get 3.12" long with a 2" dia. for 35 hz.

35hz would require a 3.14" long port... and a single 2" port is too small for any sub out there

i only really have space for a 2" port on the front, could i put one on the top too or something?

yes you can but it will affect the way it sounds.. and it also depends on what is around it.

will it affect the sound if i put a copule 3" ports on the top instead of on the front? I read in a different post that it doesn't really matter where you put them.

For the most part no.. it may attenuate the volume some but will not have other adverse effects.
