2 ohm only?

I am looking at buying a couple of 12'' Type R's, the 2 ohm model, and just keep my current two channel amp(not that great of an amp, and won't do the R's justice, but it is all I can afford right now). Since the sub is rated at 2 ohms, can it be wired at 4 if it is necessary?
