(2) JL12W7's - how many watts required?

Wow, 6 different threads in this section and 2 in amplifiers... all asking pretty much the same thing. Nice work.

So yeah, a 1000/1 will work fine for a pair of 12 or 13W7's. You will gain ~3 dB at full volume by running a full 1kw to each, but in if SQ is your goal, you will be plenty loud as it is.

How do you figure this?

running double the power theoretically gives you a 3 db boost, just like doubling the surface area of subs in the set up does (ie 4 12's instead of 2). Of course, it can be less than that or more than that because of other real-world factors. Doesn't sound like much, but you can hear the difference.

Anyway, As far as SQ, I believe subwoofers do NOT actually have their best SQ at minimum rms recommendations, rather they find them at more like 3/4 or so of their maximum rms recommendation. Not sure about that though. All I know is I had an MTX9500 15 and at 500 rms it sounded like poop, and thats the min. More power (not quite a thousand) and their was an SQ gain as well as db.

Of course, running two JL 1000/1 would require an electrical overhaul to truly get the most power out of them both, so thats even more $$$.

hope that helps.
