running double the power theoretically gives you a 3 db boost, just like doubling the surface area of subs in the set up does (ie 4 12's instead of 2). Of course, it can be less than that or more than that because of other real-world factors. Doesn't sound like much, but you can hear the difference.
Anyway, As far as SQ, I believe subwoofers do NOT actually have their best SQ at minimum rms recommendations, rather they find them at more like 3/4 or so of their maximum rms recommendation. Not sure about that though. All I know is I had an MTX9500 15 and at 500 rms it sounded like poop, and thats the min. More power (not quite a thousand) and their was an SQ gain as well as db.
Of course, running two JL 1000/1 would require an electrical overhaul to truly get the most power out of them both, so thats even more $$$.
