2 JBL 10's vs. 1 Kicker 12

I am trying to help a friend get started in car audio. I can get either setup for the same price, so I need to know which is better for SQL.

2 JBL GTO 10's (4 ohm DVC, 250 watts rms each) powered by a Fosgate P550.2 amp, or 1 Kicker CVR 12 powered by a Kicker ZX300.1 amp. The JBL's would be in a sealed Probox matched to airspace, the CVR might be put in a Probox, but I am thinking about building one for him. Either one would be sealed, but I am considering trying to build a ported box for the CVR. Which setup would be the best for SQL (listening mainly to rap music, wants it to sound good IN THE CAR). why not put that fosgate amp on the CVR, and port it?

Cost, he is on a $300 budget. I am almost set on the fosgate amp for the JBL's, but the Kicker setup is still debateable (amp anyway). A refurb Kicker zx400.1 or a new Alpine MRP-M450 would also fit his budget for the kicker sub. I have never built a box before, but I will probably try to build one for him if the CVR setup will sound better. Thanks for any input.

for sql, go for the JBL, kicker is for more SPL
