2-channel amp or 4?

All right here's my setup-

Headunit: JVC KD-S52

pre-outs: 1 rear, 1 front (being used by sub amp)

Speakers: (4) 6.5" Pioneer TS-G1641R

Amp: Alpine MRP-M500 (500w rms @ 2ohms)

Subs: (2) 10" Rockford Fosgate P1S410 150w rms, 300w max

So here's the problem - when I have the volume turned up to the high 20s and up, the speakers seem to be clipping on the real intense notes and such. I'm assuming my first step here to fix the problem would be to buy an imp for those speakers. (Of course the easy way to fix this problem would be just to turn the volume down - but I ain't doin that!) So how many channels do i need? 2? or 4? How many watts could pump these suckas pretty good?

Any input is appreciated!

Thanks,

-Chris Z

4 channel amp would suit your needs(1 channel per speaker). Find out the rms wattage on each speaker and find the appropriate amp for your setup. Most likely, 60-70 watts per speaker will be more than enough since your not running component speakers!!!

Hmm....very tempting. I'm almost positive it's out of my budget range though. I'd like to spend no more than $75 on everything - amp, wires, distributor block, etc.

Yeah I'm not really planning on changing my budget all that much. My system isn't that powerful, so I don't need a real high quality amp for my four 6.5"s. I might even just buy a wal-mart brand or something - I dunno.

you get what you pay for, and for $75 you won't get all of that. you may be able to find a decent used amp for $75 but i doubt it.
