2 Batteries or 1?

Come Wednesday, I'll be running a Kicker KX 1200.1 and a RF P4004 amp. My installer said that I should run two batteries in order for my system to sound good. I have a Ford Explorer ( I dont know the amperage on the stock alternator) with a Optima Red Top battery. I was wanting to know whether or not just the Red Top, or maybe a yellow top would be sufficient to run my system, or should I just return the Optima and buy two batteries like the installer said I should? Thanks.

what? go read up and do the big 3. Use THAT installer do to just that, install what you bought.

having 2 batteries won't make your system sound "good". Having 2 batteries will extend the life of your cars electrical system and lessens the chance of your alternator going bad on you.

the red i bought had a 3 year free replacement warranty, the yellow only had one. other than that, just seemed to me that if you weren't doing the car show thing, where you're runnning off of batt power alone, then Red is fine.

Red should be fine, the Yellow is used if in applications where you plan to use the battery till it is dead (lower then 10.5V) and recharge it from that point. The Yellow also has a longer reserve time.
