2 Amps...Getting Noise

I got a 4 channel amp and a mono block class d amp. Had both amps tested and everything is good. The four channel's remote hookup is plugged into the sub amp and ran to the radio from there. However, I'm getting a squeal when I hook up both amps together. When I unhook the remote from either amp the noise is gone. This problem occurs with the engine on or off. Is this a ground issue?

I can't really see that causing a noise, tho.

I guess you could try splicing into the remote wire and connecting a seperate wire to the 4 channel from there.

Or you could simply jump the POS+ to REM on each amp and simply disconnect the REM wire from the HU all together and see if the problem remains. DO NOT leave your system connected this way permanently as it will surely drain your battery.

I'll try hooking it up like that tomorrow when I get home. I talked to a guy at a shop here and he said the problem sounds like a grounding issue. I'm not sure how plugging in the rem is related to ground but it definitely causes noise when both are hooked up

Is the noise coming from both amps or just one of the amps?

I don't think the problem is with your remote wire. It just when both amps are turned on at the same time it sounds like they are interfering with each other (most likely a ground loop).

I would guess that you have both amps grounded in separate places? You should try to ground them at the same spot. Best case use a distro or T block to connect both grounds together.

i'm thinking the same thing.

Update: The amps are grounded to the cap. The cap is grounded to a spot in the car. I have hooked up each amp by themselves and the noise goes away. Its only when both amps are powered and hooked up that I get this noise. It happens when the engine is off. Then when I turn the car on, I get engine noise. Now I'm thinking maybe the cap is not a good enough ground?

I will try that and see. I had a shop do the install on the amp. They grounded it under the back seat...not sure how to get to it. But Im gonna try and see what happens

I just read through the engine whine and ground loop sticky and I seen that people have been grounding their head unit rcas to the head unit. I just took my pioneer out because it was making so much noise. I also want to add that as I unplug each set of RCA's, the noise gets quieter and quieter.
of course, no rca means no signal, therefore no whine. This is why i don't want my pioneer anymore. Too much work for it.

Hi Everyone,

I have just registered at this site. I have already ran through a few of the posts pertaining to my problem and found everything that I have already tried n tested. I will list down the few thingz that my audio system consists of.

1). Kenwood head unit

2). 2 x 180 watt Pioneer speakers (front doors)

3). 2 x 440 watt Kenwood speakers (Rear)

4). 2 x 1300 watt Sony Xplod woofers

5). 1 x 400 watt JBL Amp for the speakers

6). 1 x 800 watt Orion (west Coast Customs) Amp for the woofers.

7). 1 x 1 Farad capacitor for the Orion Amp.

8). Power connections using 8Gauge Monster cables.

9). 2 x 2 Channel RCA (Monster cables)

Issue is as follows.

My system was running on the Orion Amp for quite some time. At this time the speakers were not connected to any amp. I decided to change the head unit and install a new one along with an additional Amp for the speakers.

I bought a Kenwood head unit replacing the old Kenwood head unit. The first head unit was installed by the dealer. When I bought the new head unit I noticed that the clip to connect the wires were the same as that of the old one. So the easiest thing here to do was to unplug the clip from the old one n plug it in the new one. This is exactly what I did.

Things were fine when I switched the car on. However, when I turned my aircon on the rear speakers started giving an irritating whine which increases as I accelerate.

I read through various websites n did almost everything I could have possibly done.

1). Changed all wiring to monster cables.

2). Shifted the RCA’s to run from the other side of the car to keep it away from Power cables.

3). Tried to ground head unit, Amps and Capacitor at the same place. This increased the whine so I put em back to their original ground.

4). Last but not the least, some one said that the rear speakers were faulty and I got them changed.

So now finally I’m left with no options but to ask for some more advice as I could not diagnose the cause of the whine. I even purchased a ground loop isolator on ebay on the 27th of March which till date has not reached me.

If u guys can help please do so……
