2 amps, 1 sub

I know a lot of amps can be linked but for those that cannot, is there a safe way to run 2 amps to 1 sub? I have an AQ hd3 12, dual 4 that I have been having issues finding an affordable amp to power. My questions..would it be safe to get 2 amps that play at 4ohm mono and run a coil to each amp?

Using a scope or can I use a DMM? I am not too experienced on that side of the equation. If it is not perfect what are the risks?
