I was running two 12 R`s sealed and i thought it sounded pretty nice. And why stay away from the X`s?i`ve got a 12 sealed and i just love it,gets nice n loud and sounds very good while doing it.
type X is not a "loud" sub by any means. Drop the R into any install the X is in and the R will be louder, simply put.l

The X has some killer SQ though.

Its funny how some of these people say dont get Type X and dont say why. Have you all even heard them? From my experience the Type X got louder with full RMS than they Type R with its full RMS. Also, four subs is going to be pretty hard to install and you will have more space issues.

If you are going for more spl then im not sure Alpine should be your choice of brand here.

I've used both in many boxes.

The type R is MUCH more effeciant and gets louder in every application. The X will bias more towards the lower bass in most enclosures... so I suppose if you sent it more power than the R it may sound louder? The R takes much more than its RMS either way... and particuarly for burps - the R actually handles MORE power. The X bottoms out while the R acts more like its bottomless.

The X does, however, handle more power for longer periods of time. But when the R is as loud with less power what is the point... unless you are a hardcore SQ head.

Ah... the X IS a better sealed box sub than the R - excuse me I don't do much sealed testing. The R is dismal sealed while the X sounds great.

What do sq and spl mean? I'm new to this.
SQ= Sound Quality SPL= Sound Pressure Level ? **** it looks like im not getting subs anytime soon just dropped a pretty penny on some Boston Z6's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

You might wanna think about getting 2 12 type r's ported and a 1200-1500 watts amp. Would save ya some money to use somewhere else. btw nice truck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
