(2) 18 inch FI's in a Jeep Cherokee+More: BUILD

^ Box is tuned to 30hz. Peaks between 35hz and 36hz depending on a few factors. Resonant freq of the truck was 47hz. My previous setup was tuned to 38hz, got lucky and peaked right at the trucks resonant freq. Did nice #'s with a small setup . You'll have fun with the Cherokee :)

^ Yea if you tune to 36,depending on your box design and how much cu/ft is left in the Jeep, you should peak mid low to mid 40's. As for fitting 24 cubes. Its possible. Going to be very hard to achieve using a conventional box design though lol. Wall that bish :)

5 pounds of clay in each pod..

I'm not very knowledgeable outside of the sub and sub-enclosure realm, what is the purpose of all that clay inside of the mids' enclosures? Is that to obtain the desired volume inside the enclosure or is it for resonant purposes due to the fiberglass enclosure or something?

I've seen people use modeling clay around MDF rings and stuff to seal em up, never seen it used inside before. Just curious as to why. Sorry if this was asked already, quite a few pages of generic "Good job" posts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Appreciate the comments. The clay is to reduce resonance in the pods and add more overall mass.

Haha, nevermind, I should've atleast read the next page after the posted pics. I read page 25, and skipped right to 30 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Does the resonant frequency of the fiberglass used to make the enclosure make a weird peak or standing wave somewhere in the transient response or something?

Sorry for the 21 questions, but I'm planning on doing a kick panel pod for my summer cruiser when I get some free time and this seems like pertinent information //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

Hah, all good mang. But yea, as for the non hardening clay without it you hear the back waves of the mids which seems to give you a hollow sound as if you are free airing the mid. The clay noticeably helps improve midrange as it cancles out all of the resonance. You can buy it at really any Arts and Crafts store. Even with 5 layers of fiberglass the sound still resonates through without the clay. About a half inch layer of clay will do the job of getting rid of that. Some people dont mess with the clay but this is my 4th set of pods and have tested clay on each with great results.
