so i have 2 15" type r's in a smaller ported box didnt have the room before but now i am pulling out the back seats and building the box right. what are the pros and cons if i stayed with the 2 15"s vs a single 18" like a Omega or BTL on the aq2200d? thanks for the input

2x 15s will be louder than 1x 18 but since your comparing 2x type Rs to some of the best 18s not too sure. Im sure 2k watts on 2x 15 type Rs would get plenty loud most likely louder than a single 18.

2x 15s = 353 cone area

1x 18 = 254 cone area.

Id stick with the 2x 15s

If your funds allow id upgrade the 15s, get some lvl 4 15s or something on a 2200 amp should sound real good.

depends on the install. 1 18 could be louder than 2 15s.

with two 15" type r's I belive its 4.4 cubes per sub for optimum no?
somewhere around there im running about 6 cu ft for both right now gets decently loud but the flex is minimal lol. im going to rebuild to about 8cf @ 34hz hopefully see a decent improvement.

gettin really tired of you people who don't know how to calculate effective piston area...

try ~ 1210cm^2 for the 18, and 810cm^2 each for the 15's or 1620cm^2 each its effective piston area, not the whole fn diameter of the subwoofer, how much air do you think the outside of the surround is really moving?!?!? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

the 15's have a 33% cone area advantage in a 100% efficient world 100% increase in cone area would yield 3 decibals, so 33% would yield 1 decibal and thats under perfect efficiency which never happens so its safe to assume the gain from going from 1 18 to 2 15s based on cone area alone would be between 0.5 and 0.9 decibals

Sorry oh mighty one filled with knowledge. Fact is do the install right take 2x 15s off 3k watts and put a 18 nightshade off 3k watts 15s will be louder, and guess what dont need to waste your time argueing about effective piston area..maybe just use some common sense. And im sure alot of people would take .5-.9 DEEBEEZ without hesitation, again..OH MIGHTY ONE

yeah... ask how many of your top competitors are using physics, and how many are just using "common sense" im sure dante broke 180 just using common sense... which he did with a SINGLE 18 I MIGHT ADD... you use your "common sense" i'll stick with the laws of physics you moron...

*edit* nevermind i just realized your 17 years old you haven't taken physics yet
