2 - 15" or 4-12" ??

What makes you think I'm not calm?
It doesn't take a bass head to understand the formula for area.
well you may be calm, but that may not be the first thing he thought to research. Hell when i first got into car audio years ago i thought it worked the same way, until someone explained it to me...... Example - 1 12" sub x 4 subs = 48 inches... To someone that is just starting this will make sense to them until its found through searching or explained.

the area of a circle should be something everyone knows...

it is something taught in elementary school, after all

whether or not its something people can relate to the real world is clearly up in the air

you are correct but not everyone is going to think of that at first. Some will, some wont. i completely understand it now but when i started it made more sense the incorrect way lol

thanks guys,

but its not all cone...

as im not going to use the same type of sub...

so you have to think about power also.

and thats why i posted as im not sure if one of them would win over the other ( power - vs- cone )

meaning..

4- 12" ill have to feed it less power... as only 2.5 coils... hds2 ( 600rms) per

2- 15" i can feed lot more power... as there 3" coils.. hdc3 ( 1500rms ) per

if i go with 4-12 ill just keep mu ba7000 on all.

if i do 2- 15" ill do 1 amp on each sub.

that wa the plan..

now i could do 2 amps on the 12" so.. it sounds like its a toss up.

as im trying to get louder...

^^^this

You can have cool cone area build that requires less power which also results in less money for amps and electrical upgrades if you have not already. Also can be just as loud or louder then the 15s. So for me im going with side with the 12s. ive also seen plenty of hds2 12s handle 1k clean after rise to say they should be good for 4k if you wanted to run one to the 4

exactly...

thanks very much.

and yes i know each will handle more power but im only going by rated...

as there's no set in stone max power......

were as i consider rated as set in stone... because if they blow on rated im getting a new fee sub....lol

are most 4th 2-1 ?i take that as 2 ( sealed ) ( 1 ported ) ?
Ratio seems to be a bad way to design a 4th. In theory you get more spl at a narrower range with a higher ratio. Flatter response but less output at smaller. I just recently built a 4 12 2.5 : 1 and the customer is thrilled but for my taste I'd go lower ratio. If it can't play Late Night Tip loud across all it's frequencies then it's no good IMO. You'll need to model it on a computer. And don't be afraid to give em plenty of power if you're sealed section is relatively small and your subs are inverted.

well im not sure....

if it played say from 15/20 to 50/60hz that would be fine.

not looking to compete .

the reason i asked about this is...

i want louder/ more violent .
