I have read a good portion of the "offical type r thread" and I still and unsure of it's qualty and sound capabiltys? what is the best size box ported, can round ports be used with this sub, what is it's sound capabilty in db number's(real number's not a guss) Is there a better sub for the price?

How do you expect to know what numbers a sub can out up without anything at all. Its impossible to tell what people will hit even when they list theyre setup, theyre car,and the mic theyll be using, and your trying to get "real numbers" without even knowing what size box? hmmmmm......

And for the record, my guinea pigs name is guss.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And btw, a 5 cu. ft. ported box tuned to low 30's would be good.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

search where? I'm knew here,I have been finding new type r's on-line for like 100 bucks. That's the best sub i've heard at the local car stereo shop's.I've seen a lot more expencive sub's that didn't sound any better but cost like 3* that much.I'm looking for help and the "offical type r thread " is 172 pages,I have read quit a few pages and all is does is bicker, very little useful info. Questons are asked and the answer is a queston. Little help to new member?

Your telling me no one on this site has 2 12in alpine type r's,and none of them have ever had them check on a db metter or ever used them in a compition?

Theyre good for theyre price. Whether theyre the best for the price is personal opinion. Some people love them and some people are stubborn and will never get one because of all the hype. What are you looking for, a loud setup, a good sounding setup, or one that will sound get, but get decently loud at the same time? In other words, spl, sq, or sql. Most say to put the R's in a 4.5-5 cu. ft. box tuned to your liking. For daily purposes, not tuned above 40. Most suggest low 30's, such as 32 or so. Moe Lester has stickied box plans in the enclosure design section if you plan on making your own box. If not, dont buy a prefab box. Have someone here make it for you. The type r's are rated at 500 watts, but some people throw 1000 to them with no problem. I would suggest anywhere from 500-900 each to be safe.

you're "knew" here? dude, how old are you and where did you get your ejucayshun?
I was hopping you know? Just because I'm knew here you want to bash me,you don't think I have ever built a system. only a fool run's out a spend's his money on what "looks " good.I work for mine and it dosn't come easy.

MANY MANY factors. atleast give info on what equipment you will be using with the R's and car
Eclipse deck(55430) Kicker componet 6.2(2 set's)directed 4200 componets(4 channel) directed 1500d(d-class 1 ohm stable mono amp)95 firebird, WILL find a cheaper sub to hit 150 db's or higher.
