2 12'' ohm question

Ok this is the senario, friend of mine has 2 12's with a 775 watt amp. He was wondering if that 775 is divided by 2 and thats how much each sub is getting. Or is each up actually getting 775 watts. The reason is is that he has another of the same exact amp and wants to hook 1 amp to each sub. Would this make a difference? I would probably know the answer if it wasent so late. Thanks
