I haven't checked the actual specs, but I'd be somewhat worried about the extra corners involved in doing a step box like that. One thing I'd definite do is add a couple of 45's at the back of the port to better funnel air from each side into the main port.
If I were to do a step box like that I'd 45's all the inside corners and also 45 the step itself so that there's not a direct 90* angle protruding inside the box.

from the best i can tell, everything looks good. is it going to be sealed off from the trunk or subs back?

It's fine if you planned it so the port would split, turn and exit out the sides for the length you needed.

actually i didnt notice that until now.. the port needed to be 29" long.. so from the front to where it ends is 29".. does the sides count?

its a 6'' wide port and there is 3'' from the back of the port walls to the back wall, so unless im mistaken or have been misinformed he should be ok.

Just depends if you were wanting to split the port and have a pair of 3" wide ports coming out of the side. The port length isn't going to stop where the walls stop. But if anything it'll be tuned a little lower than expected, no biggie.

To bad you live in cali man. I would have tried to work something out on an enclosure for some kind of trade for that LA Storm driver... However, shipping for me to Cali is hella pricey.
