19Ov2 PSI Recone

Well I had a 19Ov2 that needed are recone because the tinsel lead broke right next to the VoiceCoil.

I found out that it would be a little cheaper to have PSI do the recone and I figured it would be cool having custom parts instead of the regular eD parts.

Well after some time I finally got it sent in and reconed. This sub looks so nice. I really like the TeamPSI emblem on the dustcap and I cannot wait to try this sub out.

Here are some pics before I start asking questions....

Now onto the potential problem/questions

Well when I got my sub in from FedEx the box looked like shit. It really scared me and I thought the sub was gonna be scratched up pretty bad on the magnet.

What happened was the Styrofoam at the bottom of the box broke and when the tape broke I guess FedEx decided they werent going to tape it all back up.

I took the sub out and it looks just fine, the magnet doesn't seem to have any scuffs on it. Also, the coils both read at around 2.2 and it is a D2....so that seems fine.

Now I know I am not supposed to push on the cone at all, but I was curious and pushed on the very middle just a little bit and it sounds like the coil is scratching.....

Questions:

1. Could the Damaged box and the fact that the magnet was on the ground some cause the motor to become misaligned?

2. If the motor is misaligned, will the coils read differently than they are supposed to?

3. If the sub ends up being messed up when I do hook it up, can I really file a problem with FedEx after I have had it for a little while?

4. Could the rubbing just be that there is a really tight gap and that it is impossible for me to push the cone in perfectly straight?

Sorry for the long post, I just don't really have a way to test this sub right now and am making myself go crazy thinking that it is damaged.

thanks

I haven't ever really had a problem with FedEx either. But the bottom of the box was sagging so bad when I got it.

I was kind of hoping the box had only gotten like that on the last delivery truck and that it hadn't been thrown around from city to city with the magnet protruding out of the bottom.

Thanks sundownz

that is exactly what I was thinking....I just wanted to verify to keep my mind on ease for a little while.

I would like to put power to it. I have a jbl 600.1 ready for it but I just don't have the time/right weather to throw it in. I also need to get a box put together.

If I had a small home receiver of some sort I would probably run it free air on just 50W or so just to see if it has any mechanical noise.

Wouldn't the motor have to take quite a hit to get misaligned?

Scraping wouldn't be cause by a shifted pole. If the pole shifted the cone would be completely locked up.

I'm in the middle of reconing a pair of 16ov2s myself, and I can tell you the gap is not particallarilly tight either. (You should be able to move the cone in and out by pushing on it with no scraping)

If the basket dosen't look like it's been bent up I'd say the coil was probably misalligned..
