Just got doing doing the big 3 to my 1992 civic. I installed the alternator 2 days ago or so, and found a place locally that carried 1/0awg wire terminals(I must have called like 40 places today to find just 6 of these **** things) I took a variety of pics out there for anyone that is interesed in doing their civic if its the same engine as mine.(Body style whatever)

First off I did the Negative to Chassis, and then valve cover(Engine block) to Chassis, Notice how I sand papered the paint off of the chassis to get a perfect ground. These were both stock locations.

CLoser pic of Negative to chassis, look for the clean ground.

Engine bay to chassis: I heard there is also a ground spot coming from beneath the air intake, next to the ******, ill get that later though when I have more time.

All of the simple tools I used, using these tools was a pain in the @ss. Oh well saves money.

Stock wires that came off, on the left is the Engine bay ground, god it looks so crappy, and on the right is the battery negative to chassis.(Both ground locations were painted on stock before I sanded the paint off.)

Here is a closeup picture of the Alternator Positive connection that I made, the 1/0 terminal sat on top of the plastic sides around the area to attach, so I put another bolt on top of the first bolt to make it higher, which then put the 1/0 terminal on top and tightened down.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It would have been a ***** to break off the plastic on the sides where the stock small *** wire terminal sat, so I just compromised.

There is the fused that I used, its a 200 amp fuse, and I have an extra one just incase. The alt is 160, which is a great size to have for what im using it for. Check it out.

Here is a picture of the BIG 3 complete on my civic! This was the first time I had ever done this before, and it really wasnt even that hard! After reading everything to do, I didnt get any sparks or screw anything up. Car starts fine and cant wait to install the complete new system!

And last but not least I am happy to have completed this task, Im proud!

It took me about an hour and half or so, to complete the whole thing. Wires look nice, fused correctly, and just an all out great experience.

Any comments?

aw.... now I guess you are gonna make me take like 400 pictures when me and you put in your new system... plus running another power cable....

looks nice, now go get your engine bay steamed... it looks like crap :p

Did it make a difference? Something you could see?
I dont have anything installed in my car yet, all of my audio is brand new waiting to be installed in a week or 2, but I can definately tell a difference in the way the car runs, a little smoother with the new alt etc. Im sure the big 3 would have been a must for what im doing with my system..

I honestly don't know how it runs now. It is giving up the ghost and showing its weakness though because the sub amp kicks out when I crank it for a while. I plan on doing a battery. For some VERY ODD reason the shop I use doesn't really believe in the big three. My only reason for not doing it myself is I don't know where to get all the supplies to do it. I don't have the Hifonics amp in yet so I know I will need to do something! That's about 1400 watt increase over what I have now... or double!

Looks decent, but two things....

1. Find another spot on the engine BLOCK to ground to the chassis. The valve cover is sitting on a paper or rubber gasket and is generally NOT the best ground point. Use a bolt on the intake manifold or engine block.

2. Put those pretty boots on the wire terminals that came with them! They'll cover up those ugly crimps and make the connections look 10x better.
