18s for dj setup

my stepdad was looking for some "peevee speakers for gotta tha bass" hispanic does mexivan music for mexican partys and such i was wondering would it be better for me/him to go with prepackaged peevee jbl et cetera or go the diy route and order some 18s and build enclosures for them. for instance d 4 sub wired to 8 ohm load as that most 120 v amps run into 8 ohm loads anyways. thanks
