18" enclosures and good systems on crappy cars

A friend of mine just bought a pair of 18" subs 2 Ohm, not the 4(1000rms/2000max). What is a good enclosure and where can he get it?

Also, he drives a 4-banger Storm, won't a 2000 watt amp kill his alternator? (he insists it won't). Also, what can he do to keep it from killing the altern.?

your best bet would be to build your own box instead of buying one. I have a 93 grand prix and i'm running a rockford 1001 bd amp and a smaller alpine with a 1 farad cap and my factory alternator is doing fine.

Building one is a pain in the *** though. And his car only puts out like 94 horses as it is.

First, we need some info on the subs and the amps, as in brand names and model numbers.

As far as a box........building one is by far the best option. You'll be hard-pressed to find a pre-fab box that simply houses two 18's, much less one that works to the specs the subs and user demand.

And if the amp is pushing 2000RMS....................I think it's safe to say he'll need a new alternator. If he insists he won't need one, tell him that you won't pick him up and give him a ride when it dies in 2 days.

Expect no more than 70 amperes of current at idle from that alternator ...

i'm guessing not even that. yes today i'm getting new alt in. o yea i'll bumpin.

yea if hes actually running 2000 watts from that amp hes going to be drawing at least 160 amps(with a 12.5 volt battery, or 140 amps @ 14.4 volts), and thats if the amp is 100 % efficient(which it's not). he probably needs a new alternator
