15'' Rl-s Vs. 13w7

The RL-S is a HT woofer anyway. And I dont think you can buy the 15" version anymore because of problems //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

x2, the guy at soundsplinter told me that if i was lookin into using it a car audio application, that i should shy away form that and use 2 RL-p's instead.

Assuming you had the power to push it, the Rl-s would have more output. Simply has more displacement. It has about 30% more displacement, which means in a sealed enclosure it has to potential to get ~2db louder than a W7. Problem that arises is getting enough power to use all of that excursion the Rl-s has.

But, as was said....the 15" Rl-s is presently not shipping. Plus they are inefficient as hell and need decently large enclosures. IMHO you would be better off with two 15" Rl-p's than a single 15" Rl-s. I had 800w on a single 15" Rl-s and on a single 12" Rl-p....and off of that wattage the Rl-p had quite a bit more audible output.

talk to 80inches about them needing huge boxes, from what hes done math wise they dont need it.

Qr = Qtc/Qts

Vr = Qr^2-1

Vb = Vas/Vr

1.2/.953 = 1.259181532

1.259181532^2-1 = 0.585538131

85.37/0.585538131 = 145.7975075L

145.7975075L = 5.14cuft

So, it needs 5.14cuft to even have a Qtc 1.2 sealed (which is high). That's large, especially for such a high Qtc value, and especially when you compare it to other 15" subs.

To get a Qtc of 1.0 with the Rl-s, you'd need a 30cuft enclosure....or basically infinite baffle. That's a Qtc value most other 15's can achieve with an enclosure in the 1cuft region.

That's not to say the Rl-s is a "bad" subwoofer.......but yeah, they need large enclosures //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

to be honest..heres the conclusion igot from messing around with the rl-s12

and this applys 2 the 15 as well

but the reason y people r saying the rl-s needs a huge box.becuz the bigger the box the flatter the response....but what i notice about those subs is....they can play in a small box its just that they will peak at a high freq.

now from my calculations..one rl-s 12 has the potential air displacement of 2 mojo 15's....thats alot of air movement 4 one sub

the 15 has more air displacement obviously...i'm not shure in comparison to what i havent calculated that but i' know its more that 3 mojo 15's

as far as output...in a box tuned to 40hz...i was told(from a very very reliable source..someone who actually bought and tested the rl-s15) the rl-s 15 has almost as much out as a brahma extreme.....and thats alot of output..

the rl-s 12 can easly do mid 140's in a low tuned box..but thats at a high freq between 40-45hz....on the new tl mic it did 140 at 34hz...and thats pretty good 4 one 12 off a stock hu and 1300watts..and a 2.5cube ported box tuned at 28hz

80

Yeah, but how much power will it take to get it to move that much air in a smaller box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif You'll probably fry the sub before reaching xmax //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

2.5 isnt that big of a box
