15" SE power

Hey all,

I was thinking about getting some new subs. I'm really looking to get louder, but still sound good. RE SE 15" or two 12" SEs were on my mind. I have an AQ1200D for power. Will a 15" SE take the 1200 RMS, or close if i got the D2 version? and would that get loud? OR should I save and get two 12"s? I'd rather buy one, but if two is a must...

Everyone here is assuming the one SE will see 1200w rms all the time, no matter what.

One SE off 1200w rms is perfectly fine, assuming you don't crank the gains.

Your sub will VERY RARELY actually see more than half that. Because of power compression and other factors that increase impedance of a driver, my guess is on average you wont use more than 100 watts on it. If you crank it real loud, maybe half to 3/4 of that power.

Personally, I'd do 1 15" SE off that power. Even when you use more than the rated power on subs, if it's clean, they can easily handle 2-3x rated. I have a 150w rms Nakamichi 10" sub that's on a 900w rms amp. It has yet to bottom out, fry, or have any signs of overpowering.

I thought about that, impedance rise and things not actually letting it get to a full 1200, or even 1000 watts. That's why I thought it might be ok, but im no expert lol. I'm gonna start to put some money aside and see what I'll end up with.

Ok, I wanna update my question a little. Should I get a D2 RE SX 15" or two SE 12"s? It says the 15" SX will take 1000 RMS (probably more)? Will the SX still sound good?

yes, the SX will take more than 1000w daily and still sound good.

i have two 15in SE's on my mm3000.1 and i have enough power on tap to blow them apart quite easily. i wouldn't put more than 800w to them daily...

Ok. So with a 4 cube box tuned to around 33Hz and 1200 watts, will a 15" dual 2 RE SX be like, hear me coming from a block away loud? Louder than my two 10" pioneers ported?

Sx's are spl speakers (compared to the se's) and se's are sq subs (that just happen to get loud)

I've got two SE 12's on about 1300-1400, and am hitting 144.9 on the TL, plenty loud for anybody.

Thats what i'd go with
