13ov.2 or avalanche 12s?

you sturrin at me brah?
well i preordered 2 13ov.2's yesterday, now im starting to wonder if maybe i made a mistake. im planning on running a sealed box in the back of an 87 ***** am, probably about 1.3cf per speaker. i listen to a lot of stuff in my car, classic rock, classical, metal, and rap, but usually if i've got it up loud im listening to some 30-60hz rap and prefer boomy, rolling bass over tight punchy. you know, the stuff you can hear 3 blocks away. i realize ported enclosures are better suited for that, and im not dead set on a sealed box. usually i dont feel the need for huge bass when im not listening to rap.

anyhow, running off an eD nine.1 amp at 1 ohm, what is probably going to be my best bet, the 13ov's or 2 avalanche 12's?

also, the avalanches are dual 2 ohm coils right? anyway to wire these for a 1 ohm load? i dont really want to buy a second nine.1 or return it for another amp, 300 bucks for a 12-1400 watt amp is just too good to pass up. but if the avalanches would just blow away the 13ov's i would consider it.

can anyone recommend another dual 4 ohm voice coil woofer in the 150-250 price range that would be comparable?

I know the Avalanche's have a good rep, not sure about the ov.2's. I would atleast try the ov2's out before I bought something else though.

port the ed 13ov at recommended spec and they should sound fine...i'd imagine they are the kinds of subs that will still maintain thier SQ even in ported boxes (which is a GREAT THING)...and if the SPL and SQ dont match up to ur needs sell the subs and get 2 rl-p's.....contact soundsplinters and see if they can special make 2 dual 4 ohms rl-p's.....its definitly possible...maybe a charge involved...

thats about what i was thinking, that they'd hit deep, low, and loud enough for me in a ported box, i guess im just trying to get someone to give me a reason not to wait 4-6 weeks for the 13ov.2 to get here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

wish i could do it wj94, but i dont know much about pg amps, dont really want to resell my nine.1 and definitely dont want to buy off a forum. heard too many horror stories.

i dont really worry about spl, i dont compete, and in my experience, third generation f-bodies (camaros and firebirds) slam with systems in the right boxes. i just like loud, loud bass that turns heads. anyone else with a thirdgen f-body here that can give me any ideas about box configurations and sound deadening?

not really, im not positive, but i believe there is at least 6 cubic feet in the well of a ***** am. definitely enough for a 15. but do you really think a 15 would hit harder than 2 12's? i like deep, but i love LOUD. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

if i did decide to go with a 15, assuming it would be able to play louder than 2 12's, i would just throw the cash from the 2 12's at it and get something really bad, brahma maybe. brahma 15 vs. 2 13ov.2s? thoughts? lol

well now im lookin pretty hard at the soundsplinter sl-p 12's. from what i see on the website, they are all dual 4 ohm voice coil subs, with basically the same enclosure specs. think a nine.1 at 1 ohm would run those pretty hard, or would i be better off with that pg 1200.1? i looked at that link, and he has a lot of good feedback, and that amp is awesome from what i've read about it.

Why would you want to wait that long for those subs.

1.3^3/sub?

as far as i know, ava's prefer larger boxes...while on the other hand, eD's were made to handle great in small enclosures.

my 1 ava12 will be in a 2.7^3 box

and as you said, i'd get the nine.1...great amp.

as i look at it, if you have 2 subs both put in the SAME enclosure, w/ both subs close to similiar specs...the difference wont be very noticeable to the avg. person.

i love the avalanche (i just ordered one last week) but given that you need small enclosures per sub, and want a nine.1 , my vote is to rock eD's.

buying two 130.v2s and the amp as a combo saves you quite a bit of money.

if you are stuck on the ava, go for 1 ava15 in a box close to 3^3ft. you will be more than happy. especially now being that they are on sale for cheap...but who knows for how long.

either way you choose, both companies produce great products, and i'd be happy either way.

good luck w/ whatever path you choose.

Get the Avalanches, sell the Nine.1, and buy the PG Tantrum (1400w @ 2 ohms) that's selling for $265 in the classifieds.
Most tantrums do more than 1400 watts btw. Both of mine are birthed at just over 1550 watts for example.

I really like what Im hearing about the avalanche. Im considering picking one up myself.

appreciate the input all. i had already ordered the nine.1, i was just trying to decide whether to sell it for something better or not. decided to stick with it, and earlier today i ordered 2 soundsplitter rl-p d4 12's. should have it all installed by next weekend. going to call eD on monday and cancel the order on the 12's. i think i'll be happier with the rl-p's than i would either the eD's or avas. (i hope)

now for the box... lol... pretty sure im going to go ported, and i've posted in the box building forum about it. can you explain to me what 2.7^3 signifies? is that just 2.7-3 cubic feet or what? thanks,

Shaun

have fun w/ your rl-p's, you'll love them.

2.7^3 = 2.7 cubic feet

I heard the Avalanche 15 will hit harder than 2 12" avalances.

Just repeating what I heard somewhere. Either will be real loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
