12v setups vs 16v setups for daily only, Pros and cons?

so you use your alt to charge the 12 volt part and then at night you charge the 16 volt part with a charger?

Or a separate 16v alternator

x2 but only thing wit that is, at some indoor venues, they dont aloow cars 2 be started and thats where the charger comes in. and u dont have 2 time to charge batts all the time. thats where 16v shines.

So this thread makes it look like you can run that 16/12v kinetik with a 16v alt, run the car off the 12v post and be set:

Well I have IA 40.1's that are supposed to take 16v out of the box. I know high voltage can be hard on stuff...but I'm guessing its not as bad as low voltage.

TRU. thats was a good point. high voltage can be juss as bad as low voltage. never thought of it that way. coo. but u should be fine. low voltage on 16v is like 15.8 and u'd still be gettin nasty power

i wouldn't do it in a car you drive to anything but shows unless you have a 16v alternator or some other constant way to charge you 16v while driving

Your right a everyday driver would not be worth the pain.

You can goto any alt shop and ask them for a 14.6 volt regulator for around $40.00 US. Then your only 1.4 volts off and can drive it all day long and never burn a light out.

If you check Voltage at the amp it will be what the Alt is putting out. My HU, Amps get 14.6 Volts when running.

I know Some manufactures say they take 16.0 Volts but it still gets changed at the Transformer anyways. They just add more windings to handle it.

Like Alpines HU say 16.0 Volts but who runs a stock HU amp anyways.
