12 SX vs 12 IDMAX

Ok guys, I'm looking to do a pretty powerfull SQ build. I've narrowed my sub choice down to either a single resonant engineering SX 12 or an Image Dynamics IDMAX 12. Either one will be going into a sealed box probably running in the area of 750 watts rms. Let me know what you guys think. From what I've heard (both in very well setup cars) they are so comparable. Just wondering about everything from product support, sound quality, and just overall opinions of which might be better. Not looking for opinions of people who havnt heard these or something, looking for an opinion of maybe someone who has heard both in competition or atleast both with a similar setup (I heard the SX with 1000 watts rms and the IDmax with only 400).

Thanx in advance,

Pat

Ive owned both and I can say for a fact that they dont sound anything like each other.

If you are looking for an SQ sealed application then IDMAX hands down. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

on the icixsound.com reviews they tested the IDMax to be (126.5 sealed and 123.43 vented average, 138.4 sealed and 137.7 vented) nearly 3dB louder sealed. The IDMax was used in a 1.3 cubic foot sealed box and a 2.0 cubic foot vented box to 30hz. They were questioned about this and claimed it was NOT an error.

Are IDMaxs really louder sealed?

Ok guys, thanx for the help looks like I will soon be an owner of a nice brand new IDMAX 12 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am just trying to understand how you thought these 2 subs were comparable? Was the sx free airing it or something?

The Id max is what you want. Great sub!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

did u even read my posti said if he wants to go the re way..the se is more suited than the sx

did u even read my post

I said the IDMax would still be a better option.

If the original question was between the SX and the IDMax...he obviously isn't looking for a RE sub only. And the IDMax would be a better option than anything RE presently has available. Yes, the SE is more suited to what he is looking for than the SX. But the IDMax is still the better option. It would be pretty worthless to recommend the SE as an alternative to the IDMax, regardless of whether or not the SE is going "the RE way". Not everybody is simply looking for an "RE sub"....they want the best sub for the job...which in this case is not going to be RE (I know..the shock and awe sets in).

Thanks again guys. I was only comparing the SX to the IDMax because they are 2 setups I've heard recently that both sounded very good. I don't like buying stuff without hearing some kind of setup with it in it. Don't know why the SX sounded real similar to the IDMAX when I listened, perhaps it was because he has a much stronger, and crisper front stage.

Really, it is literally impossible to accurately compare two subwoofers that you heard in two different installs, in two different enclosure alignments, in two different vehicles, etc etc. It simply doesn't work, since you aren't comparing only the subwoofers, but everything from the tuning of the install and setup abilities of the installer, to the enclosure, to acoutics of the vehicle itself and everything in between.

It's simply impossible to draw any valid conclusions from such listening comparisons.
