12" SX sealed to ported dif?

I'm contemplating buying a new box for my SX. I currently have it in a custom made sealed enclosure, but I'm thinking of going to a ported one because everyone else seems to have their sx in a ported box. Anyway the question is what will I gain/lose by doing this? Would it be better to just save my money and leave it sealed?
