Experience with Lanzar HU's?

I've got Optidrive amps and Lanzar components so I thought I might at least LOOK for a Lanzar HU with the features I want. I currently use a Blaupunkt Austin which I like a lot, but I'm slowly trying to piece together a Lanzar system just for the hell of it.

I came across the VBD2500mp.

Seems to have quite an impressive list of features.

I'm well aware of Lanzar's brand associations, so don't just post to say Lanzar's junk (because one, you're wrong, and two, it just shows how uninformed you are). I'm also aware that a 3V CD signal with 2 or 3 pre-outs is all I really need from an HU. The dot matrix, sub volume control, mp3 capability, and remote is all just a bonus.

Being a low cost head unit my main concern is durability. I don't want to be replacing this in a year.

I'm just looking for some opinions from people that have actually USED a lanzar HU.

up until recently they've been pretty sad.

They still might be sad, but at least the features are catching up to everyone else.

I've only gotten feedback from a couple Lanzar competitors, and of course they claim they work really well. What else would they say?

the msrp is 268. For some reason when you enlarge the pic it pulls up msrp and model number for an Opti 2000D.

Looks -- well -- when you're in the $100-$150 price range looks really aren't a factor. My Blau isn't exactly pretty, besides - I want to listen to it not hump it.

On top of that my car's an '88, just under 260k with a flaking clear coat and slight hood damage. Anything too nice would just be out of place //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ok, well a fellow co-worker, and a good friend, has an F-150 like mine, and decided he needed a new cd player, considering the Pyle that was in there would not read Cd's, and it would switch radio stations on his own. He had decided on a cheapo Pioneer from WalMart which is fine considering what he needs it for.

Well one of his good friend's brother owns a little ratty shop, that sells nothing but low end stuff, in fact Lanzar could be considered their high end stuff.

They talked him into this Lanzar:

Which I did my best to talk him out of. They ended up putting other stuff in too. That HU, a set of Lanzar Comps running off the HEAD UNIT!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif 2 Digital Audio 10"s off of a Pyle Amp. Now the system I am not gunna say much about.

But onto your question. I can say, that if I didn't have a REALLY good HU, and just wanted one quick, I would not hesitate at ALL to buy this head unit. The picture does not do it justice, it is actually a very clean looking head unit, and great dot matrix on the screen.

For the price, and being Lanzar, I never thought it would be decent.

But it proved me wrong! Now, I am not saying it is top quality, as it is no where near my Kenwood, but for the price, you can't beat it!!!

Just my 2 cents!

Thank you.

Exactly the type of info I was looking for.

I've come across that one in a lot of searches. I was never clear on what "subwoofer function" means. Technically you could have "sub function" with just one pair of pre-outs and a y-cable.

The 2500 has 3 pre-outs and sub volume control which is one of the main reasons it stands out to me. The motorized face of course sounds cool, but I'm concerned about the durability of it.
