12" subwoofer recommendations

Not interested in ported. I will have to get a better amp when I can afford one as the subs are about all I can get right now, besides since I use the subs primarily to fill in the low end and not for shear SPL that amp may work nicely. I don't want it too powerful as I am prone to volume knob abuse AKA seeing how loud my stereo can go. I will also run some 4 gauge wire from the battery to the fuse block and from there to the capacitor. I will upgrade my battery when my current one needs to be replaced.

Well, we can't argue you to believe us so do what you want. I still think that if you buy a proper sub, put it in the proper box, and power it properly, then you will be good. In reference to that, buy one good sub, and power it correctly instead of two subs and give them less than 1/4 the recommended power. Power is not just for SPL. It makes it sound right and gives you proper extension. you don't have to have 1000w, but definitely more than 200.

I understand your argument, but to me buying a "higher end" sq sub and only putting 1/4 the power to it is like buying a Ferrari and putting walmart tires on it because you "won't corner that hard."

To each their own, I am just trying to save you some money.

True. I'll do that in the future as I would most likely have to upgrade my alternator as well along with a better battery. I'm learning as I go given this is my first real car audio system. So basically you're saying that I can buy a high powered amp and not run it that hard and still get great sound? If I find two subs do not work I will have a sub for use in the house //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.I'm more of a 2 channel home stereo kind of guy so I have a lot to learn about car stereo and what can and cannot be done.

If you put 500w to each of those subs then you wouldn't need to do any upgrade to your car. At most, you would need to do the "big 3." Search for that under the wiring section and you will find some good info. Two subs will sound fine, but all i was saying is that try one sub first, power it properly, save some money, and then if you need more thump in the future, get another. You could sell one 4 channel(which isn't really a good choice for subs anyway) and buy a good mono amp. Good luck!

i also have 2 brand new kicker cvr 12s if thats more affordable id sell the at 125 apiece their 09s and havent been hooked up i have 4.. 2 are in my truck now and they sound amazing i also have a sealed box with only .9cft per sub and a 4000 watt amp turned all the way down and the bass down and the shit is still so **** loud it pulls so much power even with my 2 farad cap the lights dim and the radio and all turns off after volume 15 cause of lack of power and the max is 40 so 1/4 of the way up and their still insane

2 posts, and both of them are trying to hawk your shit in the wrong section buzz off.

to the OP, more power would definately benefit you, but for under 500$, 4 ohms each, get 2 mach 5 IXL 12's, do awesome in sealed enclosures recommended is 1 cubes each, they are dual 2 so you can wire them 4 ohms each, and they are only 192 each

Showtyme, if you have something to sell then PM me and don't post it in this topic. I don't know how it is here, but on a couple other forums I visit they frown on posting ads in anything other than the classifides section. I already have my mind made up on the subs I'm getting.

I wil consider this thread closed. All future updates will be done through my build log here http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=393264
