So my only cat has been missing for over a month. And on top of that the basement has this terrible smell that we can't figure out what it is. Or where it is coming from. So for Christmas my family and fiance wanted to get me 2 cats. I said no a few weeks ago. But yesterday I said lets go look at some.

I found 2 that were similar age and personalities. The humane society wanted me to take 1 first and see how he does and come back for the other.

So we get home. And I left the cat out of the carrier. My fiance takes him down to his room. I was upstairs making something to eat. She comes upstairs and tells me that he walked back into a crawl space.

I come downstairs to look. She said he went between the brick wall of the house, and the new wood/dry wall of the basement that gives it a finished look.

I tried fitting through the hole but I couldn't. I asked my 4 year old niece if she would do it. She almost did but got scared because of all the spider webs.

I asked my 19 year old brother who has a body like a corn stalk to go back there. He said no at first. But after looking for the cat. He said yes. It was very difficult for him to fit between the wall but he slowly made it to the corner. He shined the flash light around and didn't see the new cat.

But he tells me he found something that I won't believe. I keep asking what is it. But he wouldn't tell me. He asks me to pass his ipod touch through this little hole to him. He takes a picture and a video. And passes it back to me.

I look at the picture. And its my cat (kit kat) that was missing. He had walked back there and laid down to die.

I went upstairs showed everything the picture and let them know what we've found. My brother put on a air filter mask (the same ones we use at work in the foundry) and some rubber gloves. We gave him 2 bottles of rubbing alcohol, some bleach/cleaning agent and the eucalyptus oil to make it smell better.

When he passed me the body in the bag. Wow. was it horrible smelling.

I feel terrible that my brother had to do all that. But the cat died right behind his bed in the wall. So now his room smells a lot better.

On the other note. We still had this new cat missing. He is 2 years old. We looked every where. Had 6 adults, and 3 kids looking for him. We overturned and dug through everything. Left out a can of tuna for the night. And started looking again first thing this morning. Still no luck.

Sucks

Sorry to hear, man. But on the bright side, your old kitty passed away peacefully and at home. Couldn't ask for better in that situation. Good luck on finding the new guy.

That blows man better your cat died peacefully in the comfort of its own home though. We have outdoor cats and some of them have been less fortunate.
The black cat was an inside/outside cat. We think he must have been sick. He was only 2.

I feel a lot better the I got to see him and know what happened to him. and that the smell in the basement has been solved.

The problem with the new cat. Is that he is 2. And has never been indoors or had an owner. So that's my guess as to why he is hiding so well.

I put out a can of tuna?

anyone got any suggestions? How I can lure him out?

Yeah. I don't know what to do. I am starting to think I should give up on owning a cat. Which sucks because I can't stand dogs.
what is your opinion?
That's how I felt after my 13 yr old cat passed away. Had him from the time I was 3 til I was 15... I didn't want anymore cats after that, ever really. Now I got two more lol. And its awesome cuz they pretty much take care of themselves and mind their own.

Shake a bag a dry cat food. Always gets em.

I tried that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif but we had him in the house for 5 minutes and he has been gone since then. So he has never used his litter box and he has never eaten out of his food dish. So when I shook the bag of food. It didn't work. It is unfamiliar to him

you asked you 4 year old niece to go inside a crawlspace? wtf man! sorry f btwor your loss

look in the crawlspace again.

(For my cat,) This would always works to make her get her fuzzy ass back home. (Indoor 85% but we let her out once in a while, especially in summer.)

Her food dishes are like aluminum or something close. When she was little (she's 5 now) whenever we'd feed her, and she wasn't in the immediate vicinity...We would bang on the dish with silverware. Like magic, She'd come out of her nice cozy spot up-stairs, and we'd here the quick thump-thump-thump of her jumping partially down the stairs and running to where she's fed.

When she's been out side for hours, we circle the neighborhood just idling down the two streets parallel to ours, banging away on a food dish.

If we didn't find her waiting for the door to open so we could let her inside, we'd go out on another dish-banging trip approx 30 min later. After only a max of two trips, she finds her way home.

Now I'm not sure what the cat's feeding routine is, find out from the humane society. Ask them to go through the steps with you, that they'd take to feed the cats. Maybe there's some noise that'll attract it. All else fails take a stroll through the neighborhood with a paper lunch sack with some cat food in it, It'll sound close enough to a real food back, yet not be so heavy.

Best of luck and so very sorry for your loss. As other's have stated, he died peacefully and comfortably in his home.

yeah. Someone had to go in there. And she could fit. My sister (her mom) was cool with it.

I armed her with a flashlight and a duster to knock down spider webs. haha. But she never took more than 3 steps.

We check the crawl space constantly. We've spent about an 1 hour total looking through the house. And that was 10 total people looking. The house isn't a mansion. We just can't figure out where he is hiding so good.

my brother thinks he got outside. But I doubt it.
