10W7 or Mag 12

well you did put down as a pair, so I believe the 10w7 may do better with the amp but the Mag is the better sub. Heck I'd even go with a BM 10 if you wanted. May give a little up to the w7 in db but SQ would still be there if not a little better as the BM have a slightly better SQ than the Mag.

Well that was a very detailed answer and thank you. I have a W7's for 4 years and I love W7's they hit hard no matter what you listen to. I have a 2007 F-150 Harley on the way and with a seat lift I could do either pair as another member has but I know what W7's sound like. Since you seem so knowledgable what power? Again I love JL amps but there largets is 1000/1 which I think would be enough for the W7's, not sure about the Mag's.
a 1000/1 on 2 10w7's will run you out of the car and remain clear as crystal (provided your enclosure is spec) mags on a 1000/1 .... ummm not so much

you need more power for the mags to get the better output but they'll still perform better try rockford fosgate or hifonics is a bit cheaper but still fairly good output, not so much quality... i wounldn't recomend memphis but i'm shure a lot of people here would why 10w7's but 12" mags? why not 12w7's you wouldn't really want it to get much louder than that for recreation if you like to hear anyway

Please dont compare subs with subjective interpretations that are incomprehensible for anyone else viewing the thread...

Why does the BM have better SQ?

What affects the perception of sound quality? For most its frequency response and distortion. The larger driver will undoubtedly have much lower distortion, but its frequency response is likely much different than the 10. Frequency response although highly specific to each vehicle/install (this is why subjective impressions of subs have no validity), can be manipulated through equalization to create the desired curve. Drivers with less capable displacement have limited dynamics and are much more sensitive to equalization...always go with more displacement if you can fit it.

Equalization can solve your FR tastes...

Exaggerated low-end? Done

Exaggerated top-end? Done

Flat resposne? Done

Never go with a smaller woofer if you can fit the bigger one. The larger woofer will do fine with the amplifier, they are much more efficient as it is. I would reckon that the BM (short throw, small diameter) produces a lot more distortion and has an exaggerated top-end (lack of low-end presence equates to the same thing).

I would personally recommend going with (2) TC Sounds 12" TC-1000s, in favor of a Mag or W7. Theyre on sale right now for $120 each and will easily satisfy:D

Actually i live close to Nick and SI so i've talked alot with him and listened to/ tried all their stuff. The BM does have just as tight response as a mag which is awesome, the only thing the BM suffers from is it doesn't have the same output as the Mag does on the low end. The Mag has a killer low end. The BM liked the 45hz range while the Mag prefered lower 30hz range. For the most part, Nick has done one of the best jobs at making a "lower" level sub that still offers what you'd expect from SI. The price of the TC sound sub is killer, though. I also do agree that getting the larger size sub would be best but may lack some of the audible output that most people crave. For the price though getting two TC 12s would be nice, but i think he only asked for (2) 10s or (1) 12.

I have no problem using 2 1000/1's if the mag needs them.

I don't have the depth for 12W7's. I have a 2007 F-150 Harley coming.

Money really isn't an issue. You guys are pros I am not. I want high quality with killer bass to go along with killer sound. I feel I have had that for 4 years with W7's that's not to say there aren't other options which is why I posted. If I didn't have to use a seat lift and sould fit 12W7's I would heck 10W7's under the seat I would have never asked but that isn't an option. I can fir the Mag 12's under the seat and they seam to be the flavor of the month while the W7's have been strong year in and year out. That is the reasons I made this post. If I go with the mags how much power should I feed them 1000, 1500 or 2000 to the subs? If I go with the 10W7's I know I will use the 1000/1 and I think it will kill:up2somet:

if you dont have any reasonable advice, why add a pointless posts? it would have been more of a competition if he was asking 12"s vs 12"s, but he isnt. and even in that case, i would take the mags over the dubs, because ive seen the mags beed dubs by alot...
the answer is obvious here, especially for those of us that have a clue, and have had experience with the woofers in question...

To up my post count? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I never disagreed with anyone.I have a million clues //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif and I've had plenty of experience with the old mags. Even those could keep up with a W7.I have no doubt in my mind that the mag. can surpass the W7, depending on the install.Esp. when it comes 12" vs. 10".

What I am saying is you could compare anything jl to anything made by SI and you'd know it'd all be "SI this SI that".
