1000x1 JL Class D

Sorry, but for that sorta money, I'd much rather have a DLS Ultimate A6.
Class AB vs. Class D

arent class ab amps usually used for your speakers...since they are what, like 25% efficient......
25%? Try 60+% Think before you speak.

You're right. Class AB amps are usually used for speakers because it's the easiest/cheapest/cleanest multiple channel topology (as opposed to the low power handling/efficiency of Class A/tube and the noise levels of lower range Class D and production costs of some higher quality full-range Class D) to manufacture (low distortion, high SnR ratio, etc.).

But Class AB amps, while rare due to production costs and the market for them, are still top on the audiophile list of amplification for subwoofers.

are they really...ive always heard it was like a/b around 25.... then it goes up from there like next class is 50, next is like 85 ( i think class /bd) then class D

But hey, thats good to know....thats why i didnt think before I spoke...cause there was nowhere to look for that thought.

Still, to meet that 1000 watt JL, wouldnt you need like a 2000-2500 watt amp a/b amp to match that...or does the quality make up for it...and isnt it a lot more expensive

Who on here runs high power class a/b for their subs. I would just like to talk to them and get their review.

^^ Read that please.

Where the hell are you getting the numbers 2000 and 2500?

I used a DLS A6 as a comparison... Do you even know what a DLS A6 is?

If not, this should help a little: http://dls.se/english/fstark/a6n.htm

As you can see, it is 1 ohm stable (where as the JL is only 1.5 ohm) at which it puts out 1200w (at 12V).

Because of it's unregulated power supply, this will (and has been proven to) output even more power at say...14.4-14.5V.

The Slash 1000 features a regulated power supply. This comes in handy if you happen to be running JL subwoofers, some of which wire down to whacky impedance (i.e. 1.5 ohm or 3 ohm) and you need that [JL] recommended power output. But the amp will NOT turn on when wired down to 1 ohm, nor will it output any more power than 1000 watts when your car's charging system is supplying 12V or 14.4V. It's gonna be 1000 and stay that way.

Who on here runs high power class a/b for their subs. I would just like to talk to them and get their review.

And no, I never said the 1000/1 is a bad amplifier. I just seem to think that you can do a whole lot better for that type of money -- which essentially answered the original poster's call for comparison.

And I disagree with Eugenics, a watt is NOT a watt despite what Richard Clark wants you to believe. There are simply too many variables/parameters in his experiment to justify his claim and based on actual empirical testimonies from many electrical engineers slash audiophiles, he is in fact incorrect in claiming different amps of different topologies have negligible differences in sound quality.

the reason I keep saying 2-2500 is because imthing a jl 1000/1 puts out 1000 watts. and then im thinking ok, class a/b amp rated at 1000 watts is only going to put out 60% of that, cause you said its about 60% efficient...., so 60% of 2000 is 1200 watts....

Sorry if im wrong about this, this is just what ive always been told/heard...what am I confused about on this concept?

i wasn't refering to the soundquality. i know there is a difference. im just saying that a 1000 watt class d amp and 2500 watt class a/b amp are hardly on the same playing field. and i dont really get the 2.5 to 1 ratio that he was getting at

A class AB amp rated for 1000 watts will most likely put out 1000 watts (provided it's from a reputable manufacturer). The efficiency is already factored in.

Dude, don't you go to school to become a mobile installer? From snb778's profile...

ooook, well if they factor that in in their rating, then I completely understand...

Yes, I did..BUT...everything that I know, you know, and pretty much everyone on here knows is taught in that progam in 9 weeks. I definitely would have liked to have more experience before i went there. I went there knowing nothing...was tried to be taught EVERYTHING, and only absorbed probably like 20% of what they taught.

They TRY to teach you EVERYTHING about car audio/video and everything around there.. and I was there back in march....gotta change that.

but yea, if they take the efficiency into account than I understand...I could just see lots of companies being like, yeaaaa 1500 watts *(haha, sucker, its only 900 cause of the efficiency)

Takeabao...you run class a/b though....? Can YOU tell the difference
