1000w peak.. 2 and 4Ohm load

So what's a 1000w peak 4 ch amp going to do realistically in RMS terms?

Amp is a profile AP1040

I have front end running on 2 channels (at 4Ohms) with the gain way down and the other 2 channels bridged into 1 and with a single 4Ohm sub (sundown E8) as the load, it did quite well.

When my second E8 arrives, I want to run both 4 ohm subs into the bridged channel to give it a 2 ohm load.

Is this a bad idea to try to run half the amp at 4Ohms and the rear half at 2Ohms?

If it's not, is it worth it, will there be any power advantage?

Google much?

Ratings:

# 80 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms

# 125 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms

# 225 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 4 ohms

ETA: Also, I don't think that amp will like being bridged @ 2 ohms on your subwoofers. You may want to start searching for a replacement NOW if you intend on doing that!

I was just looking on crutchfield at the specs, but it was more the 2Ohm thing I wasn't sure of.

Maybe I'll have to buy a new sub amp or run each sub off a bridged output from this.

That would mean going back to head unit power for my JL's in the doors though, which sounded awfull.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Well, 500 watts @ 2 ohms shouldn't be that expensive should you decide to go for a dedicated subwoofer amp! Then you can bridge your Profile to your highs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Looking into a seperate amp for the subs...

But now I'm thinging what should I do with the rear channels I have spare on the AP1040...

The front is JL VR 6.5 coax, I'm thinking I don't need highs from the rear doors, just midbass I think.

I'll post in speakers about suggestions for a solution. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
