If you believe your class D sounds great and there is no difference, go run active with a class D and tell me what you think
i do run 100% active and yes my class D does sound great....then again I also run a 9.0 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Honestly, I was going to leave this thread alone until I saw a representative of a manufacturer respond with rubbish......
same here

and my famous quote "IMO" it's not bs it's our OPINION but as squeak pointed out to me before MY opinon can be wrong even though it's an OPINION with that i say
PYRAMID AMPS FTMW!!!!!!
Funny you mention Pyramid -- a few years back they had the 2400D which was actually a quality 1000w+ class D amp.

I have owned a pair of Zapco 9.0's and a pair of Crown BPX 2200.1'stwo of the best class D amps on the market and neither one of these amps

have near the woofer control that my Class A/B Crown A3000gti has

it's not even close...the difference is jaw dropping
The fact that you think that is some sort of proof only points out that you have no relevance in this discussion.

i will admit to that. my thing is if there is no "sound difference" in the amps how come when magazines and what not review them they always say things to the liking "the sound is almost as good as an ab amp" or something similar

Really? A magazine review is one of your defenses?

Because they can be mislead idiots as well? Because when they do hear a difference they might, just as you have, incorrectly ascribe it to the "class" of the amp? Also because they aren't conducting any kind of true "sound" experiment or comparison in their flawed "sound" analysis (review).

You remember when CA&E did that "high end" amplifier sound test with a Tru Copper and three or four other amps? There was a nice long thread over on the car sound forums explaining just how flawed their "experiment" was.

I, for one, look at measured specs and read briefly the commentators comments about the build quality, etc. I completely skip over their "listening" portion of the review because it contains zero relevance.

Why can't someone run active with a full range class D //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

most people who are into sq will tell you class D is more noisey than an AB particularly if you are dealing with an interior sub of some sort (not in the trunk). I could hear more hiss when I had a class D hooked up in my truck (you could hear hiss from the sub. mostly between songs. If it is there during 0 bit it would be there during music but it would be masked) During music you couldnt hear it/notice it. Can't really tell you if it was due to being class d or maybe a ground issue as i only had it hooked up a few hours. This might also come from old thought or explanation might also come from what was known about earlier class D amplifiers (noisey) Car audio and Electronics I do believe did a test on the first batch of MMATS class D's in a review a long time ago. Also it was the same thing with class D amps on sound boards (hooked up a few in my day some were worse than others)..also class a/b can make the same hiss (even on a sound board although they didn't seem as bad). I have fought with noise for YEARS LOL. That would be the only draw back I can think of. If the amp doesn't do the 0 bit noise I go back and say what I always say..an amp is an amp LOL

good read. keep it comin.

why not run a a/b and a d. lol. best of both worlds clowns //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

wow, you hear hiss in your subs ? Most people don't cross them over so high. Hiss s normally a gain problem anyway, not an amp topology problem.
78hz @ 72 db crossover slope. Gain setting was very very conservative still hiss. If you also read my post i never said it is clearly a topology issue it is install and or rumor. On a listening board I have had class D do the thuddy thuddy pop pop no matter if I had done a direct swap or not but also I have had other amps do the same thing. Also have had Class D's not make any noise other than what they are supposed to..my reply was not one of bad topology it was one of "where may have this reputation may have started"

I can attest to atsaubrey's amps sounding great. I personally like class a/b because they get hotter and keep me warm on winter nights //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif j/k

I have to retract what I said earlier because I was pointed out the inadequacies of Class D amplifiers by a friend of mine. He then proceeded to show me the difference between a Hifonics Bxi 1608D and a Lunar 2125 on a pair of 10 inch Phoenix gold subwoofers in a Tahoe with a ported box that he just built for the 10s. I forget what track it was, but he played something by Disturbed off of CD and when it got the the double bass pumps, there is a noticeable difference between the way the Hifonics amp reproduced them and they way the Lunar amp produced them.

The Hifonics sounded like a muddy blah on the double bass drum pumps whereas the 10s hit each and every single one of them with the Lunar amp. For the record, the Lunar is LESS power than the Hifonics, but it sounded cleaner and more precise.

Then he popped in some DJ Unk, which again I don't know my *** from a hole in the ground when it comes to rap, and it was a little harder to tell the difference between the amps. I don't listen to rap, but from what I can tell, it is loose and muddy bass to begin with, so accuracy is a moot point.

Vehicle: 2002 Tahoe

HU: Pioneer DEH-800PRS

Subs: Some PG 10s in a ported box (couldn't tell you the model if my life depended on it)

Songs: Disturbed (don't even know the CD) and DJ Unk (know even less about this artist)

Differences in the way the two different amps produced low frequencies... VERY HUGE! The only thing that sucks is he pointed out the weakness in my 2006 Mustang with the same tracks.... Now I hate him //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
