Hola. First of all, thanks for taking the time to read this thread and even more thanks go out to the people that reply, intelligently mind you.

Ok, so I'm new to car audio. I'm looking to get two subs installed in a sealed box for a precise type of mid bass. I'm looking more for sound quality than loudness, but loudness is appreciated. I'm not looking to break windows or go deaf, but I want to be heard.

My three choices are below. I was set on the Alpine Type R's, but I've heard they run into problems down the line. They require a ton of power, which I don't mind, but sound amazing when powered properly. I've heard these in person in a sealed box and it knocked way harder than I expected.

The P3's are supposedly very nice. I don't know much about them, but a dealer suggested them. I can also get them for cheaper than the Type R's with a one year warranty.

As for the Momo's, well I just heard about this brand today. Supposedly these knock harder than the Type R's and require a lot less power. They are also the cheapest of the bunch. I find that hard to believe, but maybe it's true.

So here I sit, money burning a hole in my pocket, but completely undecided on what subs to get. I have no idea what would "the best" choice in my situation. I'm more of a computer guy honestly and I can't even find a decent review site for car audio let alone a reliable suggestion, i.e. not from someone trying to sell me something. So please help me out if you are experienced when it comes to car audio. Again, thank you for your time.

I was expecting to see tests and comparisons and such //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

FWIW, I've never liked RF stuff (except I hear older stuff was awesome). Polk seems to be a good middle of the road choice - balance of SQ and SPL. As for the Type Rs, they're a little more SPL oriented, and I can't speak for the newer ones very much, but my brother has had one of the old ones (pre-ripple surround) for 3 years now and my friend had it for 2 years before that and it still pounds like a champ.

All that said, check into an Image Dynamics IDQ or IDMax used.

I had a pair of Polk's in a sealed enclosure. I wasn't impressed at all. Out of the 3 Id take the R's. .02
Polk has a factory setup that is in a ported enclosure. That might tell you something right there. I heard it (2 12s) in the back of a newer 4Runner and it was pretty good. Not the best, but not shabby.

generally, even for midbass, larger woofers are much better. In fact is it my strong philosophy that 10" subwoofers are pretty dumb to begin with and none of the ones you mention are 10" 'woofers' in the formal way -low-xmax high sensitivity sensitivity. A good 10" woofer can pull 95dB at 1 watt if not more. most of the ones you listed miss that mark by a factor of 10dB. You listend 10" subwoofers - something that should not exist in my book unless you're driving a golf cart.

Point being, if you want good midbass, take a pro audio approach and do what they do... 18 inches and lot of them.

now for a car, this is probably not possible, but the same physics apply. You need efficiency. I would honestly look into 12 or 15" pro audio woofers if yo u're serious about 60-70Hz punch. 10's are for up-front door speakers only! And they are quite good there, but dont ever thing they are going to be good at 80Hz over an propr 18" high efficiency sub.
