Yeah I think sealed is the way to go, for me, anyway. I wouldn't want to go through the trouble of making a ported box, just to find out I messed something up or didn't like the sound. I liked the sound of my last sealed box, so I think if the SI SQLs deliver more punch, that's all I'll need.
I was thinking getting 1/2" MDF and doubling up to get 1", because it's much easier to cut the with a router. Maybe use 3 layers for the face of the enclosure. My last build (see photos) I used 3/4", and I loved the sound, but I remember that 4'x8' huge board was a pain to work with.
I think I'll make a trapezoidal prism. My available area is 24" wide, 19" tall, and 17" deep on the bottom and 11" deep on the top. My goal is to make the enclosure tall and wide and thin as possible without compromising sound quality. I'm open to feedback.
