depends on the amp, some are stable at 1, some aren't

Answered your own question. Stable means it was designed to do so. Many amps are designed to run down to 0.5 with no issue.

no, i have seen amps explode at one ohm leaving nothing of the car but its axles....

Could you be more vague... Was the amp designed to run at 1 ohm? Was it setup and ran correctly?

I'm guessing one of those two questions were answered with a no.

Depends on which amp. I ran my zx750.1 @ 1 ohm for around 2 weeks. I handled it fine I guess, but it became much more power hungry, got a little warmer than it did @ 2 ohms, but never became terribly warm.

None of the ZX series amps are 1ohm stable according to kicker. But there have been people who have had luck, you just need a decent electrical.

Most of the Kickers that I've seen were not 1ohm stable!
