1 ohm or 2 ohm

i was talking to a guy at a car audio shop the other day and he said something that made me wonder about what he said and if it is true and should i do what he said . we were talking about powering subs and he started to explaining to me that it would be better to power any sub in 2 ohms cause i would get a cleaner signal with less distortion compared to 1 ohm were i would get more distortion and wouldnt sound as good . keeping in mind that if i were to run it in 1 ohm i would get more power out of a amp a single amp compared to if i wanted the same power in 2 ohms i would have to get a larger amp . does it make sence or did clarify it right let me know cause if so im going to do some more research on what amp i should get

There is a difference technically, because the damping factor with a higher impedance load will be greater than with a low impedance load. However, with the output impedance of solid state amps being so low, a change in the load's impedance doesn't matter as much.

It's not an audible difference.

But on a lower quality amp, the THD can rise SUBSTANTIALLY at low impedences. This could mean raising the noise floor to the audible level.

dont forget, when talking with SUBBASS its WAY harder to hear distortion in these frequencies then at higher midrange or treble.

so the miniscule distortion that might creep up with a lower quality amp - it would be nigh on inaudible anyway.

what would you consider soundstream amp to be good_bad? i never used them and was considering it for my new setup but id be running it in 1 ohm?
