1 MT 18" vs current 4 12s

I know, but it's not the typical 1v1 thread. Basically one of my PT subs is shot and im thinking of parting it out and getting a new setup. I recently ran across an MT at a good deal.

I have 4 concept old school PT series 12" subs in 7.2 cubes which only gives each sub about 1.5cubes each ported. This box took denting my trunk to fit in and disassembly must occur INSIDE the trunk, ask Dustin.

My next pondering point is an 18" MT in nearly however much space it wanted. How would this setup compare. my current subs all face upwards with port to the back. The MT due to it's size would also face upwards with the port wherever. It would give this sub room to boom; but would it be enough room to OUTboom the 4 12s?

Ill be using my planet audio 2250wrms for the MT if I decide to bite, so i wont have to worry about overpower whatsoever. It will be used for daily driving however. Keep in my this will be in a 2k grand prix trunk thats 35" deep, 30" wide, and about 15" tall.

What do you guys think? Should i swap setup to try to find another 4ohm sub that will hold a good 700rms and have a 3and1 setup of 12s in my current box?

current setup:

So you guys are all beating around the bush at no. The 7.2 cubes is BEFORE displacement giving each ~1.5 cubes each as stated. Im just looking for a simple answer given the most efficient setup for each but keeping it at 2k watts.

So you guys recommend getting a different 12" sub that will hold the power?

My 3rd thought was 2 15s. Not as much cone area difference as 1 18, and the box space would increase to give the 15s breathing room.

choices:

1 - find 4th sub and forget the matching look with minimalspaceper sub (4ohms ~700wrms)

2 - MT 18 with tons of space

3 - 2 15s with adequate space (was thinking of some death penalties or ebaying)

I don't know man. I had 2 RE HC 15's and they were a tad louder then the 1 18MT I have now. I'm hoping the 4 12 L7's I may buy will be louder then the 2 15's were.

I don't know how loud your 12's are, but I do know the 18 MT's can get reaaal loud if set up properly.

These forums are so threadcrapped nowadays lol. i MIGHT get 2 POTENTIALLY, if thats the end result, which would be far down the line.

Im looking for the efficiency of 1 18 vs 2 15s vs 4 12s. In reverse order I get more cone area but less space per sub. I may just replace my 12 ghetto fashion if thats the most efficient. But varying sub size can vary my box size. All of which will effect the overall sound.

Im to the point where im up for either replacing with the best option or just fix my setup with a diffrent brand 4th 12" sub.

dont' do the 3+1 idea.

keep in mind the cone area of 4 of this being louder than 2 of these or 1 of the other REALLY depends on the subs(brand/model) in question...power/freq/xmech also will come into play.

Like everyone else said. There is really no way of telling which will be loudest for sure, without actually putting the stuff in and testing.

Good part is, thats the fun of car audio! Juts buy the MT, try it out, and if you aren't satisfied you can always sell it! Then buy something else and try it.

Buy and sell and MT like it's no thing .... im not that rich, or i'd have bought it lol. Im convinced 2 15s would be the best of the 3 but its a LOT cheaper to just get a 4th 12 or the 1 18, but the 1 18 really scares me for daily use and lack of cone area even though the box can be monstrous ~6cubes or more
