1.5 @ 29hz and Two bookshelf speakers build log *PICS*

You can do it with other kinds of woods and I would assume MDF to be easier. Search google for kerf cuts and yes, it was my first time. It was a pain in the *** to get the sharp bend though and it took me a few hours to make the cuts and get it to bend right. It still didn't bend correctly.

wow, props for the first time, im sure this kind of build is FAR from being easy!

i rly dont understan how exactly you did this? do you reinforce the curves with fiberglass in the inside after you bend it? i thought when you bend wood it cracks so easily..

man, makes me wanna try it !

Oh it cracks and it doesn't take much to crack it either.

I don't know much about it and used a couple test pieces of wood to get a feel for the bending process.

What was lame, was that one of the test pieces bent very easily and was perfect for what I needed. I did the same thing for the real piece and it didn't bend as well at all. I had it soaked with water and it still cracked. I salvaged it but it's no where near perfect.

I used a blade height of 5/8" and spaced the cuts every 1/2". I would have got them closer together and possibly a little higher if I had to do it again. You build, you learn I guess.

There was no fiberglass used at all. Just cut the kerfs, slap some glue down, and then bend it.

No, I'm just trying to keep up with the big dogs who can actually pull this off well.

Well I clamped the top down and it's drying. I'm heading back to Ocala tomorrow so I probably won't get to check this out until next weekend and I really can't afford to come home next weekend. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

The wood was actually 11/16" instead of 3/4" which made the two side panels off by 1/16". This also happened with the bookshelf speakers and I had to power sand the ends down... lame. I will never again assume 3/4" when making drawings. You can see it in this picture:

Here, you can see the imperfections of the port:

You can see how the width gets a little small right before the flare and is uneven by almost a 1/4". This is what I'm really not happy about but I'm not too sure how much it will affect the sound.

Yea, I used the Lowes 9 ply stuff. It's not too bad to work with and it's very light. There is one pretty side and one ugly *** side.

I am going to try to strip it apart by layers and see what the other layers are like.

Yea, that's kind of the way I was thinking. I wanted to experiment with this enclosure and was going to be building some bookshelfs and would rather not spend $70 on an experiment and a couple of bookshelfs. I also didn't want to make the bookshelfs out of MDF.

I tried breaking it by sections but that shit didn't work haha.

My friend did order some 13 ply baltic birch from some website that gave him cuts within 1/16" for about $60 or so. I don't think that was shipped but it would be a good option for people who don't have the time or tools to cut it. I'll have to get the site name from him.

I wish I had a garage in Orlando. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I'm hoping to have at least a hole cutout for a sub tomorrow and I may take it with me to Orlando if it sounds decent.

I can't wait to hear your setup with full power. Hurry up with that alt!
