1 12" Sealed for SQ setup - Fi Q 12 or ID IDQ 12 or other?

Hey guys, new here, have been lurking and searching here for awhile.

Here's my setup that has just been ordered to go in my 2003 Range Rover:

HU - Kenwood 7100

Front Stage - CDT ES Gold components (6.5" midbass, 3" mid, 1" Silkdome)

Zapco Ref 750.2

Rears - Cheap CDT 2-way components for rear seat entertainment only powered from HU

Sub - Single 12" sealed box (like to keep it at 1.0 cu ft or less); Zapco Ref 500.1

My goal is total SQ. I don't really care anything about huge SPL, but I do want to know the sub is there. I'm married and have a family and just want a really classy sound - no boominess, nothing heard outside the vehicle. I've heard the Rover cabin is hard to achieve good sub frequency levels in because of its size and shape.

The other night, when I ordered everything, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a Fi Q 12" based on some opinions and comments that it was a good SQ sub. It's on order now. But after reading some more this weekend, the Q looks to be more of an SQL sub at best (maybe even an SPL sub).

Anyway, I'm thinking of changing to an IDQ 12" instead b/c of its great reputation for SQ. The only reason I didn't go with it originally was b/c I was worried it wouldn't have enough impact in my cabin.

What do you guys think? I'd rather change now than before my box is built and everything is installed. Between these two, given my goals, what would you do?

Is there another 12" suggestion for around $200 - $250 that you would have me consider (and that I can get delivered by this Friday)?

Many thanks, great forum here!

Take care,

Cliff

And let me add that if you guys think the Fi Q is good for my setup, that's the best answer dollar wise since I've already bought one. So in evaluating this, is the IDQ or alternative sub you might suggest a big enough jump in SQ to warrant the additional expense of me buying another sub (of course I can recoup some of my investment in the Q by selling it)?

Thanks,

Cliff

Ascendant Audio Avalanche is a remarkable sub if you are able to find one. I have 2 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

in that price range....the Q isn't a bad choice at all. I'm sure if you went over to Soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum and asked over on the official FI boards what box size to use(for sealed applications), that'd be more than happy to point you in the right direction. I think since you've already ordered the sub, you should do the best with it first and if you don't like it after that, sell it and get something that will better fit your needs.

If your talking total sq for a sub then output should not be a worry but, focus more on blending capabilities and note reproduction. The Fi q can do but just build a box for it totaling around .707+ qt's though.

You guys are awesome! Thanks for the quick help and so many jumping in to help me.

I'm sure if you went over to Soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum and asked over on the official FI boards what box size to use(for sealed applications), that'd be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
I corresponded with Scott before choosing the Q, and here is what he had to say on this: "The Q12 will work in a 1 cuft sealed enclosure (not much bigger than the 10) and will provide a decent amount more output for the minimal space. Ported is definitely louder and requires larger enclosures, but isnt as "SQ" as a good sealed enclosure. "

The Fi q can do but just build a box for it totaling around .707+ qt's though.
Do you mind educating a noob? I don't even know what you're talking about. Again, right now my plan is to have a 1.0 cu ft box built per Scott's recommendation.
but is that Zapco rated at 500rms?

If so, I question whether it is going to be enough to push that FI, especially sealed.
Yes - 500 watts RMS at 2ohms. Here is what Scott had to say about that: "That is a solid amp. While it wont push the Q to its maximum, it will work well and sound great. We have had several sound quality comptetitors use the Q and 500.1 with excellent results (including a world champ setup)."

Keep the thoughts coming.

Thanks,

Cliff

But I will say this, I would try the Q with that system before I went with the IDQ12

I ran the IDQ10 sealed and it was as quite as a little church mouse. Others may have had a better experience -- but that was mine.
