I just finished installing by friend's equipment in his 08 Suburban. I did an initial setup on his amps in my driveway while he was at my house, and everything sounded fine (engine running/car in park). He called me while he was driving home, and told me that he has some noise coming from the speakers that does not change with the volume, but DOES change with the rpm's of the engine. His equipment consists of:
BOSE factory h/u with nav
JL Audio Cleansweep
Rockford 25 to life power 1000 5 channel amp (bridged to front comps/sub channel for subs)
Diamond audio D250 2 channel amp (rear door speakers)
2 Diamond Hex 10" shallow subs
Morel Dotech Ovation 6 (front doors)
Arc Audio co-ax's (rear doors)
The JL and the amps are all mounted in the back of the SUV. I ran power down driver's side and signal down the passenger side. The RCA's are all in the rear of the SUV (from Cleansweep to the amps). I grounded the amps seperately from each other (one amp on either side of the SUV) to keep the ground wires as short as possible. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking ground loop. I'm going to try swapping RCA's today to see if it changes anything.
Both amps are grounded to the floor of the SUV (paint sanded off to bare metal). If I run another ground wire from one amp grounding point, under the carpet to the other amp grounding point, will it do anything? Or should I just use a longer ground wire on one of the amps so they ground to the same point? Will upgrading the factory battery to frame, and alternator to frame grounds help any?
Any help is appreciated.
