'08 Solo X 18" Box Decision...

I want to start on a box for it. My dilemma is... I heard both ported and sealed, I kinda perfer sealed for some odd reason. Just sounds MUCH better to me. As I sit here and go through the manual for my solo x I see they have an option for a solo x sealed. I still think it will be loud for me sealed and sound up to my liking.

If not I can just go for a ported box... I don't know which one to choose to be honest. I know this sub is a high power SPL sub, but I was just wondering if anyone here has heard/ran one sealed.

Personally I would run it ported. Just seems like a waste to have a sub like that and not port it.

Well the only problem with going sealed is the larger the box the less power it will be able to take. If you do a ported box you can tune it better and have more output. As long as you build a large enough port you should not have as much port noice. Just make sure to round all the edges.

The Solo X isn't an SQ sub, in general.

From what I've heard, almost all Kickers square subs shine best in ported boxes, ESPECIALLY Solo X's. Honestly, if you don't port it, you mine as well sell it and get it different sub.

Did the setup you heard have Solo's in it? If it didn't you can't compare those, it's install and equipment dependent, like apple and oranges.

Well the question is are you trying to build a street beater or a spl box?

I don't think anyone would ever consider running a Solo X sealed, except you i suppose lol

Kicker must have just added it with the past few months. I remember seeing a manual for it a few months back and all they has was designs for ported boxes.

What kind of car are you putting this sub in?

The only problem with doing that is he would have to make a small *** box and it would peak so high that it would not sound good at all

Yeah, now if it was a 10 or 12 it wouldn't peak so high but with an 18 it would peak high as hell. Plus the larger the sealed box is the less power it can handle.
